Legal Online "Television" shows streams

I saw on ad on "the television" there for BBCiplayer, which is basically an online database of the previous week's BBC "Television shows" which can be watched at any time.

I decided that I should make a thread specifically for good BBC shows that people catch on "The Television" so that others can catch them through this new service.

unfortunately I discovered that this service is only available in the Uk, why is this? Surely there is a way of fooling the website into thinking you have a british IP address, is this easy and/or legal?

My only previous experience of this sort of thing is C4OnDemands service which is riddled with slowness and rumours of spyware etc. Do others use them

I hope this thread is in the right forum.

I presume this is the same as watching things on the BBC website. I got this when I tried to watch something on www.bbc.co.uk/food awhile back:
Broadband content is expensive for the BBC to stream. The BBC has therefore decided to limit access to the BBC broadband content to people in the UK in order to ensure best value for the UK licence fee. In addition, there are often broadcast rights restrictions which means that content intended for a UK audience should not be made available overseas.

It's unlikely anybody knows this, but I'm just wondering because of the writers strike in America over the same issue. Do the writers in the UK get paid for shows that air online?
