sharing itunes library and songs

my son and i have separate itunes account and library on the same laptop i was trying to load some of his songs onto my ipod, i put them on a cd first and when i went put them on my ipod, it showed track 1 and track 2 etc. no song details etc. how can we share each other library thanks
