MY gf is going there soon for about 5 days, flying into Zurich airport. I don't know too much about the country tbh . So was wondering if any people here have much experience there and can give me a few quick pointers of the must see/do attractions around Switzerland for first time visitors. Many thanks in advance!

i haven't seen a whole lot of switzerland i must confess but geneva is a lovely town which plenty to do (expensive though) and Zermatt (the town next to the matterhorn) is not to be missed.

if you do go to geneva its only a hour drive from chamonix in france which sits right next to europes tallest mountain (leaving out russia) Mont Blanc, the scenery around that area is fantastic

There's a lot to do in the countryside, Zurich itself is quite small. www.zuerich.ch is a good official site for booking excursions, etc., . The public transport is second to none in the world, and you can plan your own trips as easily using the SBB website for trains, etc., . The tourist office in the Hauptbahnhof is great and will book anything for you, and they also have all of the tours and sightseeing (hundreds really) there.

I recommend getting up the mountains on the tours, if not skiing. It's expensive (e.g., Jungfraujoch http://www.splendorsofeurope.com/images/Interlaken%20Jungfraujoch-Top%20of%20Europe.jpg), but incredible incredible scenery in the alps.

People are friendly, but reserved compared to Germans. Also, Swiss-German language is quite a world away from standard German, but everyone speaks english at least as well.

Around ~20% more expensive then Dublin for restaurants, and in clubs you can easily pay €25 for a whiskey and coke.
