There is no dress code - whatever you feel comfortable in. The regular attendees (Scholars) just turn up in whatever they have been wearing all day (usual student combination of jeans/sweatshirt/t-shirt/shirt/skirt/etc). The top table (Fellows) wear typical lecturer garb (right down to the occasional leather-patched jumper) although they wear black gowns over it. Others (i.e. groups, graduations, visitors, etc) wear what they want, usually depends on the occasion - i.e. if it's people who are speaking in the GMB later, they'd often come in their more formal clothes. Some people do choose to dress up (say, at a class trip or something) but it's a matter of choice.

    Other things to know
    - be there on time (if you're late, you won't be admitted in most cases)
    - keep an eye out for standing/sitting (follow the crowd!)
    - don't eat any of the dessert based on lemon goo
    - remember that if you're a paying guest, you'll get tea and coffee after most people leave - so don't get confused by that!
    - if you're vegetarian, let whoever booked your group know - and if it's the stuffed mushroom, become a meat-eater again

You can get a rough idea of what the food will be on a given night here

(menu appears on Sunday for the upcoming week)

but it seems to be wrong as often as it is right, without notice.

About the best advice. You have to stay standing at the end while the fellows leave. There seems to be less of that lemon goo (of suspiciously Cif like texture) this year, but it is appalling.

I've turned up in shorts and a tee before, not advisable but I was hungry and short on time. I think I remember a girl turning up in her PJs with a jacket thrown over.

Another piece of advice, go to the toilet BEFORE you head up. Bar emergencies, you won't be going during dinner.

Just to re-emphasise xeduCat's point - you are very, very unlikely to get in after the door is shut at about 6.15; also make sure to stay standing at the end. Do that and you will be fine!
