Anyone tried this yet or have any opinions on it?

New lens in the EF-S canon range - has 4 stop IS and is much cheaper then the 70-300MM EF IS lens
Theres a bit of information here

Its a good bit more compact too.

Half considering it as Im only starting out really and costs are important while Im learning - later then I can splash out on better glass.

Was considering the 70-300 but this new lens is tempting also

    EDIT @ 55-250MM EF-S is 333 on pixmania and the 70-300MM EF is 529

Its EF-S tho... Might be hard to shift in future.
I have the vanilla EF 55-200mm. Its not terribly fast or sharp. IS might be an advantage with this new one
If you can get it cheaply then give it a shot. Maybe get a secondhand lens?
Kea do the 70-300mm f/4-5.6 IS for €380 +p&p (and possibly VAT)

I'm hoping to upgrade to one of the 70-200L lenses as soon as I get some cash together. Maybe just get a cheapass EF 75-300mm f/4-5.6 III and save up for better lenses.

Found a review here - its mixed really

Thats a great price on the lens on E-Bay - Ive always been warned to be careful of Hong Kong ebay dealers due to the high number of fakes. Do you know are the reputable?

Kea Photo are among the most popular seller on this forum and are very highly regarded. I bought a Sigma 10-20 from them before xmas.

However you should still exercise caution when dealing with ebay. Also import duty is an issue.

Sigma 70-300 APO would be also a good candidate for buying in the same range but much lower cost.
