Was looking at both of these resorts in Austria for Skiing. Intermediate level. Have found fairly good prices for end of the month in well reviewed accommodation (both places). I know Scheffau is part of the skiweld which I skied before when I was in Soll. Am happy enough with it.Wondering if anyone has been to either or both and if they could give an opinion. Not looking for mad night life as going half board and happy with few drinks and bed.
    Thanks.,

Been to Mayrhofen twice about 4-5 years ago around late February and its a very busy resort. You have to get a bus to a large gondalla which brings you up to the start of the skiing area, every one has to get this so obviously its packed in the morning and evening and I remember about 30min lines to get onto it either way. The town was veru commercial and tourist orientated and compared to some of the other resorts I've been to lacked any charm.

I was a beginner at the time so didn't go on many of the intermediate runs but the ones I do remember were very busy and bumpy and uneven cause of this. Probably best if get someone else's opinion on the runs, being a beginner we didn't deviate much from the main runs probably missed out on alot of the areas.

Overall I'm being very negative about it but we had a really great time (enough to go back a second time) but after visiting other resorts around Europe I wouldn't go back again. Other resorts are much more laid back and had small locally run shops and restaurants to get something in the evening and were generally quieter.

Either way its a skiing holiday, you won't have a bad time :D

I really enjoyed Mayerhofen as did my parents, the ski instructors we had were great. I can't really remember much though it was 9 years ago at this stage I think... weird!
