A quick scan through the fatal incidents in Ireland over the past year reveals,(Q3 2007 CSO)

    No 1 killer: Car/Automobile(Drunk Driving, Speeding, Dangerous Driving,Careless driving,DUI
(Drugs or medication),Unsafe Vehicile etc all against the law and
    therefore criminal 320+

    No 2 :Knife/Sharp object {Together
No 3 :Other blunt weapon { Account
    No 4 :Firearm(Illegalilly held) {For 58
No 5 : Physical Assault {CSO Latest figures)

No ?? Legally held firearms (according to CSO)
http://www.cso.ie/releasespublications/documents/crime_justice/current/headlinecrime.pdf amongst other CSO websites) 00000

Legally held firearms used in criminal activities Do not keep records

So in reflection, from tomorrow the following are banned,

Cars/automibles/engine driven apparatus(anything with an internal engine to
include but not limited to lorries, cars, 4X4's
    buses,trains, lawnmowers, aeroplanes (all
kill more people per year), chainsaws, food
    mixers,

Knives:table, kitchen, chef's, penknifes or any another piece of metal that can be
construed as a knife or sharpened as one (forks, spoons etc)

Blunt force implements(hurlies, baseball bats, golf clubs, or any wood or metal or organic
instrument over 3 inches in length (most men would have to be
    banned if they get excited)

IILGALLY HELD FIREARMS (speciffically those known about now or THOSE IMPORTED
ILLEGALLY OR INCLUDED WITH DRUGS/ILLEGALLY IMPORTED
    SUBSTANCES TO IRELAND)

Defence Courses/sports (to include but not limited to, Karate, Ju-Jitsu, Judo, Nin-Jitsu
Soto-Kan but to include wrestling (American or Greco-Roman)
    American Football,boxing,rugby and any other
    sport/pastime that involves human-to-human contact

Legally held firearms NO NEED TO BAN THESE, AS ANYONE THAT HAS ONE HAS ALREADY
BEEN CHECKED OUT BY THE GARDAI, IS AN UPSTANDING CITIZEN,
AND HAS A REASON TO OWN ONE
(If only could be said the same as all of the above)

    NOW, WHERE IS THE PROBLEM?

Ah now, I'm sure there's not been many people killed by lawnmowers, in fairness :D

There's a fair number of people injured every year by them. Injuries to feet (running lawnmower over own or other peoples feet), hands (stick hand in to clear blockage while lawnmower running) and by objects thrown from the blades at high speed.

Definite contestants for, at least, an honourable mention in the Darwin Awards! :)

I don't think it qualifies. Losing one's hand or fingers does not help remove oneself from the gene pool which I believe is the main requirement for a Darwin Award :D

Sticking your head in would qualify :D:D

The overwheming majority of legally held guns are held by responsible owners.

Criminals tend to use, handguns and sawn off shotguns which are illegal.

    Hence the figures.

Had to amputate a leg, a few years ago because of lawn mower accident.

Trampolines should be licenced, IMO, seen a few deaths and serious spinal injuries.

Not to mention the number of people who run over the power cord in an electric mower and come to grief as a result.

And as to archery, while it's a great sport and a lot of fun (not to mention great training for pistol shooting), anyone who thinks a bow and arrow doesn't have to be treated the same way as a firearm in terms of safety, should not really be using one.

correct, a archers, im sure realise that they hace a deadly weapon.

Many accidents with firearms comes with too much familiarity with their firearm and forget the dangers of it.

I always have full respect for my rifle and am very careful particularly around others.
