Hello all, Not much of a regular poster here but wanted to go anon for this for what will be obvious reasons

Well i have been suffering with depression for a few years now and decided to get the help i was in denial i needed. I went to the gp and he put me on 20 mg of Fluoxetine that was back in October. Well i was taking them up until about a week ago i went back to my gp as i felt they weren't doing much for me if anything.

So he put me on 60 mg of Duloxetine and i have been noticing alot of changes already. I have slept 2 hours in the last week but i dont feel tired. I find it hard (def no pun intended) to get and maintain an erection. I got one yesterday and me and the gf put it to use but when i......finished i felt the ejaculation but there was no orgasm.

I know this isnt a medical board or anything but the doc said this medication was common and was wondering if any other boardsies were taking/had taken this medication and had some of these side effects?

Thanks for any and all help its appreciated

Unfortunately, the class of drug (SNRI) is notorious for quenching libido, making orgasm/ejaculation difficult and causing impotence. Insomnia is also quite common.

The GP *SHOULD* have gone through a list of the most common side effects with you.

Unfortunately, there isn't really much you can do about them :(

OP, no offence intended but you really need to talk to a doctor about this. It really isn't a good idea to be asking randomers about their experiences of prescription medication because everyone will have a different experience, it won't be of any benefit to you whatsoever.

when i......finished i felt the ejaculation but there was no orgasm.
Did you mean to say you felt the orgasm but there was no ejaculation?

Did a google on Duloxetine side effects ejaculation

    and found this page: http://depression.emedtv.com/cymbalta/sexual-side-effects-of-cymbalta.html

You should talk to your doctor about the side-effects you are experiencing.

Some side-effects decrease with time, others may not. It is possible that a change of dosage/time of administration might help.

Interested to hear whether or not you have noticed any change in your depression symptoms, but a week is probably too early for this?

Can I just ask about some details of your depression? Why do you feel you need medical supplements? Surely everything isnt so bad? I myself have had my fair share of depressions since my childhood - fairly frequently tbh - and I never found a need for medicines save when my parents chose to put me on them when i was much, much younger (and to be fair i resent them for it - I always saw it as a distraction from a long term solution).

whats so bad you need a pill to keep you in check?

Don't worry about it if its only been a week or so. Anti-depressants can have horrendous side effects when you start them which can last for a few weeks. When I started mine I had about two weeks of horrors which gradually faded. They take about 8 weeks to properly kick in anyway so the side effects will have lessened by then until they are gone!
    It's ok!

You need to speak to your doctor about this, fair play for asking for help
but as Miss Fluff said this is not a medical board. The internet can be dangerous if you
are looking for answers about medical problems.

I hope you start to do well, the best of luck.

Well firstly thanks for all the replies

To answer esel's question first i felt the ejaculation (ie the sperm part) but there was no orgasm it was almost like i was urinating tbh

Overheal i have been dealing with heavy depression for years now and kept trying to hide it until i tried to commit suicide and only for my father hearing me and coming down to see what the noise was i wouldnt be here. Me taking these pills is for me the last option left after counselling(2 years of it) didnt help

Missfluff and barneysplash i decided while i was thinking after posting this i am going to give the pills the benefit of the doubt for a few weeks and see if they help with the depression and if they dont i will see the doc again thanks

    Cheers monkey61 and psi
