Blu Ray playback question

Got my ps3 recently, and watched first blu ray on my 26" Sony HDTV. While I was pleased with the quality (On 26 I didnt think there would be much of a difference tbh) The black bars on top and bottom of screen, I couldn't find a way to remove them. It's all well and good to have them on a 46" telly, but on a 26, they take up the bloody screen!

TV wont let me mess with aspect ratio over hdmi it seems, so is there a setting on the ps3 itself to rid the black bars?

    Thanks.

I think you can if you go into settings on your PS3 and down to the BD/DVD option i think there could be something there you could change but i'm not 100%.

Its nothing to do with Blu-Ray or HDTV. Its the format the film was shot in. It would be the same for the DVD version also.
If you have large black bars, the flim is shot in 1.85:1 or 2.35:1 ratio.

Your TV should have some sort of zoom option, nothing on PS3 to change this.

The black bars are meant to be there!!! Remove them and the picture is stretched.

My LG HDTV has more limited zoom functions over HDMI but it still allows a 16:9-4:3 switch. It's quite possible that your picture is already displayed properly so it may not need changing at all. Depending on how old your film is, it could well be shot in a variety of bizarre aspect ratios. Just pick one that doesn't look stretched or squashed and don't worry about the black bars!

As previously stated, its the aspect the film was shot in.You have a 16:9 tv and the film is most likely shot in 2:35:1 or 2:40:1 hence the bars.

To get rid of them you would be either stretching the picture or cutting off the sides of the picture, thus defeating having a widescreen display in the first place.

It's 300 on blu ray. TV refuses to let me stretch picture over hdmi channels, and ps3 doesn't seem to have an option. I dont mind if I loose quality if I was able to stretch, because on such a small screen it's really annoying.

I know Ive seen stretching options in the upscaling setttings. I think thats the only place Ive seen em though. Your running version 2.1 yeah, as I think a few options were added irt video playback in that firmware.

I get the same, can't zoom over HDMI, don't know how to get rid of the black lines.
