I had a long argument with various people last night after i overheard someone say megadeth are rubbish compared to metallica.
I was the only person who thinks megadeth are far better. Situation could of got out of hand there:D.
Any megadeth line-up is better than metallica!

    What say you people?

Firstly i think Martyfriedman is a much better guitar player than Kirk Hammett, Metallica try to hard to get the best out of they have done and try and make it better than there last record, example "St.Anger" this was to be as good as Kill'em All and Master of the Puppets, eh what a failure, i'm Megadeth all the way!!!

st. anger was a complete and utter failure. megadeths "united abominations" wasnt great but had some good songs on it. still, megadeth anyday.

Well Metallica have a bigger legal department than most corporations these days and have forgotten that they are actually a band that makes music rather than the world order of copyright protection

While Megadeath are just stingy and renege on their promises to their hard working fan. In a recent competition they held the winning band were refused permission to tour with them (that was the prize) because they were too poor to afford it....something megadeath might have considered before hand.

All in all they both were great bands, Metallica rocked me to death in the RDS but both should shut the fuk up and rock the fuk out.

Once I would have said Megadeth - e.g. Peace Sells... far superior to Ride the Lightning IMO - but in general, Metallica. I think Dave Mustaine tries too hard and lacks focus. Metallica have made grave eror judgements too but I think they are way more consistent - Don't think megadeth could ever equal Master of Puppets.

i was at the the metallica gigs, good. but megadeth in the ambassador was the $hit!

    "Rust in peace"

    No. Fact.

    :D

So far so Good... was great too BTW

Hmmm it is a close one.

Metallica have the best overall album imho in Master Of Puppets.

But Metallica Have released four classic albums in my eys

    Ride The Lightening
    Master Of Puppets
    And Justice For All
    Metallica or Black Album

Megadeth have released five classic metal albums in my eyes.

    Peace Sells..
So Far So Good So What?
    Rust In Peace
    Countdown To Extinction
    Youthanasia

But since 1991 in Metallica's case and 1994 in Megadeth's, neither band has released a classic album, but it could be argued that Megadeth have released less bad albums than Metallica in the last 14 years.

So Megadeth get the nod for me, but only just.

Or until the next time I play Puppets. :D

if metallica can produce something good on the next album with Rick Ruben then i think they are better - if not it is megadeth.

    Most. Annoying. Argument. Ever.

They're both bands who produced some great albums in the past and now produce really mediocre shíte, who gives a crap who was better?

I love metallica but heres my summarised childish view:

    Both were great
Both are now producing mostly shoite music
    Both are great live still
    Dave Mustaine is ginger

    Therefore metallica are better

Seeing as I base my decision on who's better on the gingerness of one band against the other shows how opinions on bands are really down to individual's tastes

I think Blur are the better band .... oops sorry
    what utter nonsense

i love them both equally. i refuse to take part in an age-old argument that even the bands themselves are sick of
    they're both awesome
    you try to do better
    no didnt think you could

Ha ha. that is very true.

    That is even truer.

But this is an endless argument. Megadeth, I think, have way better stuff, and they sound tighter than metallica. Also the way Metallica have gone in the last few years, napster etc. has put me majorly off them, though I wouldn't call them sellouts, they just changed their sound.

They are both average bands nowadays, both well past their prime, just llike Slayer et al.

In short, Megadeth are Kings of the castle, Metallica are dirty rascals

Considering Mustaine wrote alot of Metallica's decent stuff, it has to be Megadeth... ;)

Megadeth are(were?) great but they didn't write Orion.

    I'm a bassist.

I choose the band who's name starts with M.

Megadeth have better albums and songs. Megadave all the way for me.

Metallica are still good though, but I find their albums aren't filled with great song after great song.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,946 ✭✭✭SouperComputer

I like em both. I probably listen to Metlica (hehe) more overall, but for us metalheads, the best thing that ever happend was Mustaine getting kicked out of Metallica IMO, even if Mustaine doesn't think so.

A world without Rust in Peace or Peace Sells.... would, really, really suck.

Cant choose one sorry, Megadeths riffs are just too fierce!

/edit WTF is the Atari Jaguar option?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 5,638 ✭✭✭bombidol

If I had to choose just one Id pick Megadeth though.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,887 ✭✭✭Rattlehead_ie

As Pornnapster said Mustaine did write if no co write all of Metaillca 1st album.
But apart from the I believe Megadeth have made better choice and the last 2 Albums Megadeth have released are well on the way to being back at good Speed \ Trash Metal, I haven't enjoyed any album as much as United Abomination for a long time. I'm sure Ill be accused of Fanboyism, but I don't care... Only one guess for who I voted for.

But I will say I loved Metallica old stuff, they WERE a great band and I think this argument has gone on long enough.

surprised this hasnt gotten extremely out of hand to the point where the thread is locked yet. For me its megadeth all the way, i think there are 2 main reasons why people dont like megadeth. 1. mustaines cheesy(like it or loath it, its true) voice and 2. metallica fanboyisim.

    my 2 cents.

I prefer Metallica for Master of Puppets, epic.

This is a fairly silly argument in general, apart from completely ignoring Anthrax, Slayer, Testament and Exodus! I also don't understand this seeming opinion that Megadeth haven't produced a decent album in a decade. While Risk was dribbling ****, World needs a hero was the first step in th eright direction, System has failed was further movement in the processing of righting the Megadeth behemoth and United Abominations deserves to be ranked right up there with their absolute best.

Metallica is more complicated. Load and Reload were a huge disapointment. There was a few decent tracks on it, and while S&M was rubbish, it was no more than trying something new, and I will never bad mouth a group for that. St Anger was an album with some hugely misguided decisions, perticularly the production and the choice of no solos. However, they have shown (very) brief flashes of their previous ability. The Garage Inc covers cd was very enjoyable, and the 2 new songs from S&M, -human and No Leaf Clover were both pretty good. The new album has every chance of being great, and Rick Rubin is a production god (just look at what he did for a washed up country & western "star").

s and m rubish?? i think your on your own on that one bud!! Personally didnt see what people thought so great about united abominations, love there old stuff but that album just seemed generic.

On the topic of the other thrash metal titans, anthrax testament and exodus are 3 massivly underrated bands, in my opinion testament almost beats megadeth to the top spot on my thrash metal list.......Almost.

A lot of posters saying how this is the "worst thread" etc.

Yes, a bit pointless and inconsequential - but so are loads of threads on this site. It's harmless.

Can you not just ignore it if that's how you feel? Surprised some people have taken the time out to even comment on it TBH.

Honestly, I probably should've locked this thread the minute it was posted, it's been done 6 dozen times before, and it always ends up bringing out the very worst in people.
