My boyfriend and I are planning on travelling to the West Coast of America at the end of August/beginning of September for 3 weeks. We are flying into and out of LA....or at least thats the plan so far. We plan to rent a car for the first 2 weeks, drive to and spend a couple of nights in San Diego, Las Vegas, Grand Canyon, San Francisco, Santa Cruz & LA. Then we plan on going to Hawaii for 3 nights before coming back to LA to fly home.
We have priced everything and so far it's costing us 5,000 Euro for accomodation, flights & car rental. Does anyone know if this sounds right or if we are spending too much. Also has anyone any ideas on where else we could visit, etc....!? Thanks

Sounds about right. Unless you can get a discounted/Cheaper hotel or something. I've spent the last week at home on the laptop trying to price hols to the US. 3k for two weeks in NYC/Chicago.

Maybo someone else can give you a better answer, thats just what i've been finding.

    Hi Scruff,
I "did" a similar trip with my wife Nov 07,San Fran + Hawaii (Maui),we have also "done" Cal a number of times, please take any advice offered as meant with the best intention to help you enjoy your trip.
Hawaii is a 5 hour flight from Cal + there is a 3 hour time difference,it seems like a lot of effort for 3 days and you won't see Hawaii properly, you need a minimum of 5/7 days,it is a beautifull place but so is Cal and if it were my choice I would do either SAn Fran (3 days) + Pacific Drive/Carmel/Monterey/Pebble Beach/Yosimite Nat Park/Nappa Valley/Lake Tahoe down to La Or southern CAl/L Vegas /Grand Canyon down to San Diego ??.
If you try and "do" San Diego To San Fran you will spend the majority of your Vacation time(very American!!) driving and not spending time enjoying the many attractions of the West Coast??
Please take the advice as well intentioned and ask me any questions that you think I may help you with ?

Thanks for the advice....we were originally planning on driving route 66 but we decided 3 weeks might not be enough and it was working out even more expensive. I'm really hoping to get to Hawaii even for 3 nights....have always wanted to visit but might try to stay there bit longer. Unfort we can't get anymore time off work plus it's costing us enough at this stage!!!
