as an outsider i have a quick question for you. i did practice karate for about a year sometime ago and i did really really enjoy it and i liked the people who were in the school with me as well but one thing seemed to put me off continuing and that was the sense that everything was in preparation for some street fight that may or may not happen. most of the people i trained with were bouncers. the thing is it left me with the notion that people who train to fight will at some stage want to use their skills on the street whereas those who dont have any skills ( such as myself tend to shy away from trouble ) just wondering what your ideas on this are? Do you find yourself drawn to trouble?

people who want to fight will fight anyway!

if they are doing martial arts or not don't really matter. but if a bouncer has that mind set then they should not be working in that job.

martial arts draws a lot of macho men but thats part of the package sometimes, they usually end up not going to all the classes cause there just training to se if they can take on the blackbelts or highest grade when they feel like it.

most martial artists don't have the need to start a fight or go looking for it. sorry you had bad experience.

for me personally I think it was very good , because you could practice with people who have actually used and tested what they learned. but it really depends on what you wanna achieve and find a class that is suitable for your goal.

I think this is less of a problem in martial arts with a competitive component. People who can't test their skills in training may feel insecure about them and feel an urge to test them outside of training.

For me the opposite was true, I lost my pent up aggression when I started exercising reguarly.
