Microsoft consider Blu-Ray add on.

Having previously released an external accessory that allowed the system to play HD-DVD discs, Xbox group marketing manager Albert Penello told Reuters that he wanted the ultimate decision to be in customer's hands.

"It should be consumer choice; and if [Blu-ray is] the way they vote, that's something we'll have to consider."

Opinions? I personally don't give two hoots because I'll never buy either Blu-Ray or HD-DVD, but I understand its now the new subject you don't bring up at dinner parties for fear of causing a real life-flame war.

Well, most of the western world will have high speed broadband (not us of course) in the near future - e.g. 93Mbps (Japan), 44Mbps (France) 43Mbps (Korea) and 21Mbps (Sweden) - we get 3MBps (see http://www.independent.ie/business/technology/struggling-with-new-year-broadband-blues-1262108.html. )

So they will probably be able to download all the high def stuff and not have to bother with either HD-DVD or Blu-ray. SD-DVD (upscaled) will do very nicely for me for the next while.

I would have preferred HD-DVD to win, but since it looks like Bluray is going to win eventually, I'd prefer if they killed off HD-DVD sooner rather than later. Microsoft going with Bluray would certainly help the process along as that would mean both the major hi-def consoles supporting Bluray.

Very few high speed internet services are actually consistently that fast or cover a large portion of the population.

I'm on a 20 megabit connection in the UK at the moment, which is about as good as it gets here, but I still have fair usage limits to worry about and downloading HD content wouldn't be an option for me. And I'm better off than 95% of people.

Downloads aren't going to take over any time soon. That said I don't know if any HD format will take over from DVD for quite a while regardless. The difference isn't that big.

In fairness, it's hardly surprising that they're considering a Blu-Ray add-on. They would of been planning on from the very start, to hedge their bets if HD-DVD failed. It would be insane of them not to.

The said from the very begining that they'd bring out a Blu-Ray add on if needs be... Tis old news.

They went with HD-DVD cause at the time it was a hell of alot cheaper n available...I'm sure Toshiba asked them nicely too...

Invest in a telly with a VGA port, handy as ****, watching/gaming on the big telly with ease.
