Setanta Cup 2008

This season’s competition sees a change to the format, with the competition beginning in February and ending in October. The first round of matches will be played on February 26th, with a total of three series of matches being played by April 15th. The competition will then break before recommencing on September 1st with the remaining group fixtures, semi-finals, and the Final which is due to be played on October 18th.

Good idea. I felt the competition has been kind of rushed all along. however, the major downside of this is the fixture congestion it could cause when it re commences in the Autumn if the European representatives should make any decent progress.

eL teams are Drogs, SPA, Cork City and Derry City
IL Teams are Linfield, Glentoran, Portadown and Cliftonville.

I would like to see City grouped with Drogheda, Cliftonville and Portadown.

    Draw is Thurs 17th.

^ What I meant was, with postponements because of European games, there could well be a backlog come mid Sept, early October.

That's fairly harsh on the nordies, imo.

At the end of this season, and the start of next for them.

    Hmmm.

    Southern Bias anyone?

You'll get one of them I reckon.

    Probably Linfield.

With this All-Island league on the cards, I reckon a Derry Linfield match up is somewhat inevitable, just to show everyone that the two clubs can "get on".

Anyone know what the deal with cup tied playerrs is? We couldnt play paisley in it last season as he wasnt in our squad, if league starts before their end of season and before our mid season are new players cup tied?

The two of them met twice last season in the SSC. For the heads that want this All-Ireland league I'd say this rivalary is the least of their worries.

    Linfield Derry Glentoran St Pats

    Drogheda, Dungannon, Cork City, Cliftonville

I am unreliably informed thats the draw.

Happy enough with that. Prediction of SPA and Linfield from Group 1. Drogs and City from Group 2.
