Dan, I switched over about 5 months ago. I would not switch back. I have to use Windows for work and it's so slow and unresponsive at times. Granted, it's just a cheap work machine but it's good enough to show me I'm glad I switched. Like you said, you can still use BootCamp but after a few weeks getting used to OS X, I doubt you'll use it. In fact, I deleted my BootCamp partition a few weeks ago.

Upgrade it. OSX likes memory - it's a great OS. It utilizes it's memory properly unlike Windows. They are a pleasure to work with... (Macbook Pro's)

Buy the RAM and HD yourself and install, it's a doodle and works out so much cheaper. Apple really over charge for memory. If it's any interest to you though MacWorld 2008 is taking place next week and there's the possible announcement of new laptops etc. Just a heads up.

Also a fair point - they just released their 8core PowerMac this morning.

As has been said, get the RAM and HD seperate. It's way cheaper. I got my RAM from crucial.com.

An adapter of 2pin to 3pin will be fine.

    do it!, do it now!

+1 on the ram issue, far cheaper 3rd party stuff.

Buy a travel adaptor pack while your there. That will sort out the power. Get a mouse and the applecare there to, far cheaper there than here.

And yes, if your there until MacWorld wait...

You forget he's in US so everything is basically half price. So why not get his RAM while he is there as opposed to paying double (may or may not be cheaper) when he gets back to .ie!

i am 1 year and 2 months using mac now. I was 9 years using windows. I will never buy a windows computer again.

I felt save buying a mac ( at first) because 1) i can get help in here and 2) i had bootcamp as an option.
I get plenty of great help in here and i only ever used bootcamp about 5 times ( i use parallels to run windows 3 times a week and i only spend 6 minutes using windows each time. I hate windows now)

Jump to mac. But i would wait till after macworld, which is on this week. You never know !!!!!!!

Dan, the thing about Macs is that there is always a new release just around the corner..if you wait you'll never buy one. You'd never really watch Dell or Toshiba etc for new updates (daily). Although missing the macworld releases by a day might be a bummer.

My story: (I'm standing now) I have become a mac addict!

When I was a kid my uncle was a vp of IBM and I got to play with one of the first "laptops" they made (actually it was about the size of a desktop with a fold down keyboard and a 5' screen - god it took me a while to understand wtf DOS was) - anyhow I moved through the MS OS's (with a little unix sidestep) always somewhat a PC believer until windows xp when I truly fell in love with the inexpensive, powerful and popular pc/ms match.

And then I was forced to get a mac book pro for work. The OS is great (way better than Vista - imho on a par with a good xp installation) ....and ...I deleted my windows partition last week - i just didn't need it anymore. I got that monkey off my back. Macs are prettier and cooler, it's as simple as that. Did I say prettier and cooler, coz they really are prettier and cooler!!!

Buy it, buy it, buy it - it will never be so cheap.

    B

(PS - I have to admit that I still have a pc lappie...and a pc desktop... and... )

Yeah the only reason i am considering it is my laptop is a year old and i usually update everyyear and i LOVE the look of macbooks they are by far the best looking. I am decided to buy one now just dunno weather to go for the 1099dollar one or 1299 dollar one.

Don't worry. As I keep reminding everyone Macbooks were only refreshed in November. Anything is possible with Apple but I'll be VERY surprised if they're revised again so soon. The Macbook Pros are due an update at Macworld however and we're expecting some sort of ultra-slim notebook with a flash drive. But if neither of them interest you then fire away.

if you can fork out the extra cash, then get the more expensive one. just to make it last that little bit longer

Just so you know, ALL MAC users are retards !!

Buy at your peril - You have been warned ;)

You don't need Bootcamp or any other emulator to run the popular apps. There are Mac versions of most Windows software or at least equivalents. Failing that there's Parallels Desktop or Crossover Mac which won't require a Windows License to run.
