eBay Item delivered to different address

    Bit of a dilemma.

I purchased a reasonably expensive item on eBay.
However, the seller didn't ship to the republic, so I got it shipped to an address in NI.
On the day the courier arrived with the item, no one was in at the address I specified.
When a few days went past & I still hadn't received the item, I contacted the seller who informed me that the item had been delivered & signed for, with a signature I did not know.

Using BT phonebook, I searched the area & found 2 matches close by. Phoned both & both deny signing for & having my package.

    What can I do now?
Is there anyway the courier driver can be forced to state exactly what address it was left at? (It was delivered 2 days ago)

I really don't want to be reimbursed for the item, it's it I really want.

How did you pay the seller? I do not understand why you did not arrange for somebody to be in the address you gave? Did the seller give you the tracking number?

Forgot to say: It is up to the seller to get the item delivered to the buyer

The people whose address I gave were on holidays. The item was delivered the very next day after I purchased it. I did not expect the item to be delivered so fast. Hoever, I did ask the seller 3 times to let me know when he was shipping it as I'd have to arrange for someone to be there as it was not my address. He didn't. He replied the day AFTER it was already delivered.

No, I didn't get the tracking number of the seller. I'm hoping he will do all to find my item.

I paid the seller through PayPal, so I know I have some protection. It's just I really wanted this item & it kills me to think that someone has it & that the courier would just drop it off anywhere, without specifying where, cos he's too lazy to try again enroute the following day.

In which case, your seller is an idiot for accepting paypal and agreeing to sending it to a different address. He has left himself wide open for a claim irrespective if the buyer got the item.

I would open a dispute with paypal. He has to do all the chasing with the courier and he will not do that if he thinks his money is safe.

But, does anyone know what lengths a courier company generally go to help somone find their package, when they just drop them off willy-nilly in the 1st place?

I mean there is no one of the name that signed for the package within 2 mile of the address I specified, yet there is a house next door, & several more on the same road!!
How would you ever know where to look when they won't at least leave a message to say where it's been delivered to.

It's the courier I'm annoyed with, not the seller. The item had been delivered the very next day after I paid for it, the seller's not to blame.
(I know it's his responsibility though)

Depends on the courier. They should at least be able to provide, to the sender, a copy of the signature used by whoever received it. Delivery agents will normally only deal with the sender, not the recipient.

As said, start a dispute in Paypal and escellate to a claim. Though, since the seller will be able to provide tracking information (not to you) then it might not go your way. It depends on how much attention Paypal pay to the claim.

It could have been delivered to one of the houses either side of the address you specified. UPS normally try one house either side of the address unless specifically stated on the package "No Delivery To Neighbour"

No, there is no one of that name close to them.
The nearest is 1.5-2 miles away!

Further info seems to suggest that someone was at the house that day, when the courier arrived. Outside the house that is.

As I said, I contacted both people of that name in the area (listed in the phonebook) & they deny it.

I doubt very much if the courier even checked to see that they were who they said they were.

I've asked the family do they know who the person would be, & they don't, so it's not someone familiar to them, which leaves the fact the the courier seems to be saying that he left the package with someone at the premises even more strange.

Plus, it's now 4 days since it was delivered. If it was someone legit, would you not think they'd have contacted the house at this stage to say they have a package for them?

I'm still trying to get the courier details of the sender so I can follow it up myself, as at the mo:- he's getting info of me, he's passing it to customer care, customer care is passing it to the driver & the driver is then passing it back through the same route.
It's starting to get very frustrating at this stage!!!

What makes you think that whoever did sign for it used their real name? I mean if they're in any way dodgy and see the opportunity for some free goodies, why use their own name when it might lead to comeback? Not saying that's what happened, just a thought.

I'll never understand the mentality of some UK sellers who won't ship here but happily send to the North. They see the Reupblic as overseas, yet NI isn't. (yes I understand that in royal mail terms it's 2 different zones, but most buyers will happily pay the extra).

So are you saying the courier gave the parcel to someone who was outside the house on that day? If so that does not constitute delivery, it could have been anyone walking by. Any courier company worth their salt know this. To be fair it's unlikely you'll get the item now, as no-one knows who has it and even if it was delivered to the wrong house the courier company would just as easily settle a financial claim for it rather than chase around to see can they get the parcel back.

It is up to the seller to get the money back from the courier, their contract is with him. You in the meantime can either ask him directly for a refund or go through the the Paypal dispute route.

Yes Wertz, I was well aware of the fact that if the character was dodgy, then they wouldn't give their real name.
Still, it was worth the chance of ringing those with that name in case it was innocent.

But, all's well that ends well!! I got the package. The courier company I found out is only a small one & they were more than helpful. Turns out they know the address I got it delivered to very well.

They explained to me that often times stuff gets left in certain areas outside the house when no one's home.

When we checked in those areas, we found the package.

The name that signed for it is still a mystery however. The driver sounded very genuine in describing the person who signed it, but the only explanation at the mo is that he signed it himself & left it in the place he knows.

It sounds too strange, that someone the family can't think they know, knew where parcels are often left at the house & then signed for me parcel & left it in one of those places!!

Anyhow, I got it, so I'm happy.
