I had this problem on E-nvi (now owned by Smart) and it was killing me. I posted this here and then rang them quoting DeVore

To stop people from hosting permanent servers on DSL lines and other broadband connections some operators have enforce regular IP renewals in their routers. This has the effect of dropping your connection and rerequesting an IP from their central server. You're browser wouldnt notice this but your poker client will. Some poker clients are more sensitive then others to this.
Ask your operator if this is their policy (or ask on the Broadband forum here for an honest answer :) ) and demand they extend it to 24 hours if they are. Good luck with that but you are within your rights to insist.

It sounds like you are having a problem with your ports. contact NTL and ask them how to open up ports for paddypowerpoker. they should help. or else you can search online for your router type and hope you dont mess up. As a quick fix, you can turn off your firewall while playing but that can be risky.
If you use a personal firewall (e.g. ZoneAlarm or Norton Security, etc) in the your PC or you have a corporate firewall in the computer network then this could prevent you from connecting to the gaming servers. In order to play in ... (insert poker name here) Poker TCP ports 443, 4400–4450, 4600–4630 and ... (insert port range specified to the poker below) must be open for outgoing traffic (no need to open ports for incoming traffic). If you do not know how open ports in firewall then please contact your computer administrator or ISP

I'm on NTL, ipoker will not work for me. Everything else does.

I wouldn't play the site much even if I could, just the occasional sat.

I should call NTL but they have me programmed not to call them, by warrant of them being so incredibly useless and infuriating to deal with.

Cheers folks, I'm fairly braindead when it comes to this kind of thing so I'm not too sure what to do!

At the moment I can hardly even get into the PPP website, it might take me 10/15 attempts to even log in, I might stay logged in for a few minutes and then I'm kicked out for up to half an hour, it's a pain in the hole.

Any other info would be much appreciated.

I have NTL broadband with a Linksys wireless router and have never had a problem. It's also hooked up to my Wii, though, and i have had issues playing one game in particular online. There's a thread on it in the Nintendo forum.

I think somebody said that NTL might be "port-blocking", but I've no idea WTF that means.

Edit: here's the link to the nintendo thread....

It is more likely to be your router that is blocking the ports. Ports basically are a way in or out of your network/PC. Check out www.portforward.com for a guide to open one up on your router. The only ports that ISP's generally bother blocking are one that are used for file-sharing (Bit-torrent, Limewire etc) to stop people downloading non-stop 24/.

The only program that won't work for me is ipoker.

All torrent and all other poker sites work bar none that I've tried (and that's a large sample).

Are american players allowed/blocked on ipoker??

Blocked. I was in US for a couple of weeks and couldn't play whilst there. Checked with support and they basically said ''tough sh1t...your in the legal jurisdiction of US law so no iPoker for you.''

Then there is zero doubt in my mind that it's a case of NTL routing via the usa. (or something like that, I'm no tech wizard :p).

The same thing was happening with my utorrent so I opened a port using their premium service where you pay them. Paddy Power Poker is not listed though, any idea how I would port forward it???

I e-mailed NTL this afternoon and included the piece above and said that I'd be taking my custom elsewhere if it was not sorted reminding them that it had been working perfectly for nearly two years.

I got no response from them but I've been on the PPP website for over an hour with no problems, first time that's happened since I started having problems, is it just a coincidence?!;):D

Probably, I'd be surprised if they managed to respond that quickly, if at all.

I emailed them 4 days ago because I didn't receive a copy of my December Bill, no response.
Wrote them a letter months ago, no response.
