I'm of the firm opinion that if you put your mind to something, you can achieve it. I wouldn't let the dyslexia inhibit your ambitions. There's a good few teachers over on the Teaching/Lecturing forum who might be able to give you some advice on becoming a teacher.

There are still loads of jobs out there.

Would you work in a call centre? There're always call centre jobs...

friend of mine was in a similiar situation. Also has dyslexia and wanting to teach woodwork after years of doing carpentry. He found there is sooo much help on offer with exams, lectures - worth looking into. Think it was UCD he tried, perhaps give them a call and arrange to meet them.

don't let it hold u back!

Oh right. Maybe keep it in mind for a longer-term goal?

I sometimes see FAS looking for people to teach the trades, have you considered looking for a job as a trainer with them?

Go to Australia, get a wider view on life. You do not have to get a job as a carpenter, but its worth the life experience. Irish travellers can get jobs anywhere. Just avoid anything that requires writing. Do NOT sit for years on the dole, it will only sap your spirit, take this opportunity to do something.

You're 22. You have absolutely LOADS of time to create a new career for yourself.

I know a girl who is very badly dyslexic. She is a senior marketing manager. On nearly 100k per year. She is proof it can be done.

At your age I would seriously consider going back to college full-time. You could have a degree by 26.

Not everything involves a lot of English. I did computer science and English skills were not important whatsoever.

Whatever you do, don't let yourself get too depressed. You definitely have the time and ability to build something good for yourself.

PS To find call centre jobs, try -

    Jobs.ie
    Irishjobs.ie
    Jobseeker.ie (searches Monster.ie, Loadzajobs.ie, Gumtree.ie, Fas.ie, Staff.ie, Recruitireland.com)

Also, what about a sales job? There is tons of money is sales.

Sales is defo a good route.

People normally start off in this area by doing "telesales".

Telesales is **** (basically it's cold calling) but it will get you the 6 months experience you need.

    Telesales jobs: http://www.jobseeker.ie/jobs.php?k=telesales&l=&x=0&y=0

Regarding college, IT is definitely a good bet for jobs. Maths for certain (hardly anyone does maths anymore.) Accounting/accounts always has jobs.

Are there Fas sales courses? There might be.

I think you seriously need to get spelling lessons also. Bad idea leaving school after junior cert if you ask me... The construction industry in Ireland is in trouble, it was a bad idea relying on it for a life long career. And by the way, you cant even think about going to college until you go back to sit your Leaving Cert first.

I would second that. I know a man who is dyslexic, in a similar field to you, and is running a successful business for the past 20 years. Don't get hung up on your dyslexia, many, many successful people manage with it.

Not a very constructive post, there stardust. You are a completely ill-informed about pretty much everything in your post.

Dyslexia is a condition. "Spelling lessons" will not help his cause, nor will telling him to get "spelling lessons" help him either.

As for leaving school after Junior Cert - what do you know about his circumstances? Do you know why he left? A blanket statement such as you made is downright ignorant.

As for a bad idea for relying on the construction industry? WTF are you talking about? It has been a very profitable career for a great number of people of the past couple of years.

And to finish up, your drivel about requiring a Leaving Cert to attend college proves, without doubt, that you are talking through your arse, without one iota of knowledge of what you are talking about. Look up Mature Student and educate yourself.

D-OLEARY - it's ill-informed idiots like this who will not give you a chance. Don't be put off by them.
