Anybody know if the Russian Embassy in Dublin will accept an invitation fax,
or do they require an original?

Russian Embassey and Russian buaracarts are very fussy.
We had to endure this a few times while getting paperwork sorted for our Adoption of our Son.

On saying that, letters of invitation were sent to us as PDF emailed from our sponser and once printed these were accepted

Were in Russia are you heading? we were in Moscow and St. Pete's. Of the two St. Pete's was the best. Good food and friendly people. Very cold this time of year. Went down to minus 27 degrees.

    Das va Danya,

    Robert

Woolies  I ended in bed with thermals and all clothes plus coat, hat gloves. Fekin cold so it was.
But it did not stop us from walking around, enjoying the atmosphere and the people.
Once I found KFC and McDonalds;) I was sorted for food. There is a cool resturant near the train station off Nervski prospect called "the Spinks" (forgive spelling) Cheap Beer and Pizza, pasta etc. They have english speaking staff. really cool and nice.
What every you do, do not eat any food cook at the side of the road and watch your wallet. Plenty of pick pockets.
Also, photo copy ALL you IMPORTANT documents and NEVER hand over your passport (original) to the police.

Wages are low, corruption is high. DVD's are very, very cheap;)

    Have fun,
    Rob

Will only be spending a few days in the cities, then out to the sticks for dog-sledding and ice fishing etc. And if that wont be cold enough, its Mongolia for dessert!!

    Thanks for da advice,
    Paul

Did the Russia thing with my house mate in September/October for two and a half weeks - The Russian Embassy was frustrating to deal with but I only gave them a copy of my invitation and they accepted that - Everything else has to be perfect for them or they’ll put you away from the window and back to queue!!

As for the trip, we did your journey backwards - started in Irktusk and trained it across to St. Pet's - There are some great cities along the way - We'd a great few weeks - Moscow is fabulous but just avoid any officials, we had no bad experience but we heard of a good few tourists who were robbed by the police.

Fax copy shouldn't be a problem. What time of year are you hoping to go? Pretty soon? (I'm jealous!!)

I'm headin to St Petersburg in April. How do I get an invitation?
I'm also plannin to travel to Minsk for a few days, has anyone here experience with Belarusian visa. I believe you must have a "Tourist Voucher". How do I get one of those.

Did you read the link given on your other post for the Belarus embassy visa guide?

You need someone you are staying with in Russia to issue an invitation. Most people get the hotel they're staying at to issue the invite. They're used to doing it :)

Ya, your hotel or hostel can provide visa support for a fee, or try realrussia.co.uk
