Entering US from Canada as an Irish Citizen

    Hi All,

I'm hoping to go to Vancouver this summer for a couple of weeks, but would like to drive down a bit of the US west coast for 5 or 6 days within that. Does anyone know of any problems with entering the US from Canada in this fashion? Is it possible to get a Visa waiver as I would if leaving from an Irish Airport?

Has anyone done something like this in the past?

    Thanks

    M

When you go through a land crossing, you will have to go into the office and get a visa waiver form. Fill it in as normal and you will have to pay a cash fee for entry, so make sure you have US dollars on you - They wont take Credit cards. Bring proof that you will be returning home from Canada within 3 months, i.e. a copy of your flight itinerary just in case.

yeah there's no big problem but make sure you give back the Visa Waiver before you go back to Canada. When you're going back to Vancouver you'll only go through Canadian customs and they won't take it off you. You'll have to go do it yourself! I went from Vancouver to Seattle 2 years ago and i'm only realising now that i was suppose to get rid of my Waiver, causing me so much hassle!

The fee is $12 US cash, no canadian money accepted.

Also the questioning tends to be more aggressive when entering by land from Canada. When leaving the USA be sure to surrender the green slip from your passport to the US border people.
