In the UK a man comes with a lorry with a grab and takes away the muck heap (or nearly all depending on how big it is at the time) , you pay money and off he goes. Muck heap disposal problem solved.

He collects (from yard in UK - 7 horses.. 2 straw beds, the rest on Hemcore or shavings) about every 6 weeks or when needed (winter is prob once a month).. costs £30 per tonne.. and the most we've had taken away is 5tonnes (6 weeks of poo in the winter with extra horses staying) the usual amount is about 2 - 3 tonnes..

What do people do with their muckheaps here in Ireland..? I know some people spread it (as in the UK), rot it for compost (takes ages and ages) but so far I've experienced people dumping it on their own land (huge mess/loss of grazing).. dumping it in gulley next to a train line () and fly tipping it (even more ).. but what does everyone else do with it ? Are there collection companies?

What do you do with yours ? (or what does your yard do with yours ?)

I know we used to contact a company that produced mushrooms to take it away. At a bigger centre i worked at a local cattle farmer used to remove it for bedding under cattle during winter. The sawdust was never very dirty and its recycling at its most basic level.

    The mushroom man!

Not sure what you would do in a small yard though....

My old yard used to put it in the slurry tank and the farmer spreads it. Other places have the mushroom man come to collect it. When it was just myself, it went onto a compost heap which is still a big heap down the back of our garden that would need a digger to shift.

So the Mushroom Men seem to be a good way to go! I will have to find myself one!

Have absolutely no idea what else to do with it here

Although the news we had about our house purchase today was so cr@p that the muck heap is the least of my worries.. :(

    But thanks for the answers!

ya yards i worked in it was the mushroom man or there was a woman who grew roses that use take it too.....

with my own two i had a small muck heap that was used for compost (didnt have the big a pile as they were outsoors most of the time... dont believe in having them locked into a stable prefered them to be outside like they should be!)

See that would be ideal.. mostly out = small heap.. but for my little horse mostly out = living hell!! lol... he'd die.. he absolutely hates it.. especially in winter.. atm he is in 24/7 .. his choice.. not mine..

Hoping new horse will be better at going out..

Another vote for the muchroom man though.. seems is the way to go..
