30/11/07 Coolmine recycling centre reopens in time for Christmas rush

Fingal County Council is delighted to confirm that Coolmine Recycling Centre will re-open to the public, on Thursday 13th December next.

Coolmine Recycling Centre has been one of Fingal County Council’s busiest recycling centres since opening a number of years ago and its availability over the Christmas period will be of great help to householders in Dublin 15 who find themselves overburdened with packaging which they need to recycle over the Christmas holidays.

The recycling centre has been closed since July 2007 to allow the Council to undertake major refurbishment and expansion work on one of its busiest public facilities. A temporary site has been open in Damastown Industrial Estate in Mulhuddart, while work was ongoing at Coolmine and this temporary site will therefore close to the public at 4.00pm on Monday 10th December. Containers and other recycling equipment from Damastown will be moved on Tuesday 11th and Wednesday 12th of December to make Coolmine ready for re-opening on the morning of 13th.

Edwina Dunford, Assistant Environment Awareness Officer with Fingal County Council explains the importance of re-opening Coolmine. “Householders in Dublin 15 have been very patient while Coolmine is closed, making the longer journey to Damastown with their packaging waste, and we are delighted that the refurbished facility is open in time for Christmas which we all know is the busiest time of year at all of our household recycling facilities”, she said “Residents in Fingal recycle 25% of their household waste through these centres, our bottle banks and the green and brown bins and we’re delighted this Centre which is so accessible to the Blanchardstown Centre is ready to open ahead of schedule”, she added.

Coolmine Recycling Centre will re-open from Thursday 13th December with the usual opening hours of Monday to Saturday from 9.00am to 4.00pm and a late opening on Thursdays ‘til 7.00pm. The centre is closed on Sundays and Bank Holidays.

Coolmine Recycling Centre is for household use only and accepts the following material free of charge from Fingal households:

Newspaper, magazines, cardboard, tetra-pak, clean plastic packaging (except expanded polystyrene), drink cans, food tins (cleaned), clothes, household hazardous waste (aerosols, paint tins, waste oil, batteries, pesticides, weed-killers), waste electronic and electrical equipment (TV’s, VCR’s/DVD players, kettles, toasters, stereos, power tools, washing machines, fridges, etc.).

The following larger items of household waste can also be brought to the Coolmine Recycling Centre for a fee:

Metal, wood, household furniture, home construction waste (e.g. soil, concrete) and green garden waste unsuitable for home composting.

Details of opening hours, location map, charges and materials accepted are available on www.dublinwaste.ie and www.fingalcoco.ie.
