Airport Extreme and Airport Express

I'm going to have to upgrade my faithful Airport Express when I upgrade to a MacBook, because it's slowing my internet connection.

I'm inclining towards the new Airport Extreme base station

which will be a lot faster; but I'd like to put my iTunes library on a hard drive and play it through the Airport on a stereo, but while you can do this with the Airport Express base station

it appears that you can't with the Extreme. Now I'm stymied.

    Thoughts, anyone?

The Extreme won't make your internet connection faster. What's wrong with your Express?

You have that the wrong way round. The USB port on the Airport Extreme can be used to connect a hard drive, or a USB hub for further expansion. The port on the Airport Express can only be used for a printer. No idea about the technology behind this, and I use neither myself so I can't personally verify it, but I've seen it confirmed many times.

EDIT: ^ fair point actually. Also I think I've missed what the OP was getting at, only just copped it now, sorry!

    Simple.

Keep the Express and plug it into the Extreme.

I have three networks running at home.

Apple Extreme with two Expresses plugged into it.

One for a G Network ands one sending music to my hi-fi.

I also have my original Airport plugged in for a B Network.

Got the idea when I was having trouble getting my 2000 iBook to join a Extreme network.

 Plugged in? Not directly though, right? You mean wirelessly as WDS relay/remote stations? How many computers in your house?

    To be clear:

One Express plugged into Extreme as a G network

Second Express taking wi-fi from Extreme to accept iTunes music into my hi-fi

    Hi All

My machines are no longer able to find my router wirelessly...
(i have tried 3 machines in total) I can connect via cable no problem at all.
I reset the router and the security, changed the ssid and the password... etc..
    But still no joy..

The best bit its just a year old....

    any ideas..

to answer Call_Me_Al - yes you can get an Express, connect it to your hi-fi and use your Airport card to send your iTunes (and with other software like RogueAmoeba's AirFoil, most, if not all, your Mac's sounds) to your hi-fi wirelessly.

Easy to set up and works flawlessly. You can even get it work with multiple Expresses simultaneously.
