Had been toying with the idea of building my own site for a while (especially as I have a dedicated server available with tons of bandwith).

Had been playing around with the coppermine stuff a bit, but couldnt get the look I was after. It was quiet in work today, so slapped on zenphoto and did a little bit of customizing on one of their standard themes.

Still need to add text blurps and the available pics are sparse at the moment, just want some opinions on the general feel / layout of the site.

    Site is here

Maybe add a first and last button on either side of the prev and next buttons.

Also the image info button is in a bit of a weird place. Try moving it to the top of the page. It will mean the person has to move the mouse less to get the info and to close the info page.

    The site looks good though.

Edit: You'd probably want to make it so that this redirects to the gallery page until you have a chance to add something to it.

Thanks, forgot about the redirect *slaps forehead* is in place now, so www.craggyislander.com now goes straight to the gallery page.

Good idea about the first / last buttons. Was messing about with the height of the buttons earlier (so dont need to scroll down 1 click of the mousewheel to see the whole image) but that pulled the whole site out of whack.... I'll have another go at those and see if I can make them into a navbar with: info / first / prev / next / last.

Just to let you know that redirect doesn't work on firefox 2.0.0.11 or at least not for me. It works fine on opera though.

I'd recommend signing up for a free (currently) account with Viewbook.

Login, upload your photos, put them into categories in Viewbook. Then grab the html code it produces and insert it into the relevant page on your website - instant flash portfolio. Quite possibly the most elegant and simple solution I know of to get your portfolio online. It is in beta at the moment and there are some limitations to the amount of photos you can upload, but it is well worth a look.
