I was there in June '06 for 3 days at the tail end of our honeymoon, and yes, its hot! We used to get up early and head down to the beach/sea at 8am.. but you would certainly not sit out in it beyond mid-day! The sea-water was bath-tub warm at that hour of the morning.!!

Temperatures got up to 40-43 degrees during the day. We got taxi's everywhere, which were fairly cheap and everywhere is air-conditioned. There was a huge new shopping centre recently opened when we were there (name escapes me now), so when you are in there you're well insulated from the heat... it even had its own Skiing slopes!

Thanks for that..that kinda sounds bearable alrite! I suppose once you know not to sit out in it during the middle of the day its not too bad! Does the evenings get cooler?? The shopping sounds nice :D

    Hi

I have been looking at Dubai also for a honeymoon in July and have sort of been turned off by the 40 deg heat but if it is any help to you we have been told that yes its warm but when you are in the shade it is bearable

Its bearable for sure. The evenings are still very warm, so don't bother packing jumpers!
Yeah, the shopping is great over there if thats your thing... and they're always opening the latest and greatest new shopping centre!
You have to try the "Sand dune bashing". That was a blast. You get taken out on in a convoy of Toyota Landcruiser 4*4's into the desert.... excellent fun, and the day is rounded off with a late BBQ under the stars.
Hotels are very good too... We stayed in Mena A Salam, right next to the famous one (The one that looks like a sail)... our hotel was out of this world and not expensive.

    Hiya!
Dont go !! I adore Dubai but in July last year it had reported temperatures of 50deg! Which means from 10am to 5pm you cant really do much!
Its fabulous, the buildings, the shopping, the culture, the food! The place is amazing! But try go September - November or March - May if you were to go! know with the honeymoon you wont be able to have much flexibility- maybe make it a 1st yr anniversary holiday! Theyre becoming really popular!

    Hi fendi gal

My opinion is-don't go! I was there at the end of May/beginning of June and even then it was unbearably hot. Don't know why other people are talking about sitting in the shade etc, the humidity was suffocating whether in the direct sunlight or not. Even at night time we felt uncomfortable outside, for example I remember sitting in an outdoor roof top cocktail bar at 11pm, with the ice in my drink melting, and sweat rolling down my face, awful! We did manage to swim in the sea a few times which made the heat more bearble, but to be honest it was a bit like being in a hot bath!

On the plus side absolutely everywhere is air conditioned, so there are lots of things you can do in comfort. However if can feel a bit restrictive having to spend a lot of time indoors. Another plus is that hotels etc are a lot cheaper during the summer, for obvious reasons!

And if you do decide to go, I would highly recommend the Jumeirah Beach hotel. I have stayed in many amazing hotels, but none with service like this! The staff are incredibly friendly and go out of their way to accommodate your every whim!

Ooooo I wouldnt go to Dubai in July if you paid me!! Thats a nasty kinda heat that!
My uncle has lived in Bahrain for 20 odd years and he still cant understand tourists coming in the dead heat of the summer, its just not a nice time to be there. By all means go to Dubai, just not in summer. I remember it being really warm in October there, like Spain in the summer.

I was in Bahrain last July and it hit 51 degrees more than once... You get used to it though, it's the constant Air Conditioning that will end up killing you :o

it is too hot at that time of the year - unless you like oppressive heat and humidity (just asked some european friends who live here)

main local transport is by taxi, while less expensive than home it can begin to add up depending where you are located, so set aside a budget for it... i'm still trying to get to grips with the bus system but most locals say it isn't reliable and it is usually full of construction workers, when they finish the metro / skytrain it should be easier to get about though... this is a currently a car oriented city... walking around some areas is like taking your life into your own hands (due to construction and crazy driving)... one friend who lives here was telling me they have to take a taxi to get to the other side of the road as the closest pedestrian crossing is well over a km away...

there are lots of malls / shops if you are into it... i'm not really but had a quick browse around (electronics/clothes/dvds) and didn't see any massive bargains, apparently there is a big sale festival later in the month though...

people are nice and friendly, some of the architecture is amazing, but i'll have to come back and see what it is like when it is finished as it is like a massive construction site in most areas... if you want it to be the trip of a lifetime i'd wait another two years until the Marina area and the area around Burj Dubai are completed... and hopefully they get their public transport infrastructure up and running...
