Just wondering if anybody else has had stuff nicked while getting your car serviced. Only reason I ask is that I had my Nokia phone charger taken while my car was in with a Ford main dealer. When I complained to the service manager he claimed that there is no way any of his guys would do such a thing. I had my phone on charge that morning before leaving it in so it must have floated out the window .

I'd never leave anything of value in my car if I was dropping it into a
garage/tyre company/NCT centre. It amazes me that people are surprised
when their mp3 player, bluetooth gear, designer sunglasses, GPS etc goes
missing. Ok granted a Nokia charger is not as valuable as the Crown jewels
but there are people out there who will steal anything often just because they
    can.

What a coincidence. My dad has his car in for a service at a VW garage in Cork (only place that would service the car, 04 carrera) yesterday and had his phone charger, a packet of cigs and (bizzarly) a travel coffee mug stolen. He noticed immediatly and complained. After much arguing, some person in the service dept. owned up to taking the stuff and returned it. I'm not sure what happened to the person who took it but my dad was filing a complaint to HQ this morning.

I was shocked tbh, I've never had my own car (97' Cooper:p) serviced as I've just done it myself when I needed to but it put me off ever doing it tbh.

Thats just it, I had taken my iPod, sunglasses etc. and left stuff that I didn't really think people would risk there job over. I suppose tho' if they think they'll get away with it they'll give it shot.

Could be worse lads, my mam had her car nicked while it was in for its first service. The mechanic left the keys in it, went inside to ring her to tell her it was ready, she went down to the garage straight away and it had been stolen in the meantime. After a lot of talk about lawyers, she got a brand new car out of them though :D

I know a mechanic who found 4 or 5 porno dvds in the boot when he was doing a service. The fella never came back looking for them either.

If you can't trust a mechanic not to nick stuff then how can you trust him/her to service your car properly.

    Agreed.

Better story i heard was a car being towed cos it broke down and the car fell off the tow truck!!
God only knows what damage the fall done but the garage said they wold pay for all damage, which was only cosmetic as far as they said.

Theft from your car whilst its in getting a service is completely UNACCECTABLE.

I used to work in the trade, and this happened in our workshop. A car was in for a service. The mechanic servicing it was a tealeaf and nicked a camera and some Cds from the car. The owner came back for the car and noted the theft of the items. He refused to leave or pay the bill until it was sorted and his items returned - he stood his ground agressively and rightly so.
There was mayhem in the workshop. Big staff gathering with management..........and eventually the tealeaf gave up the stuff cos a threat came from the owner that he was calling the guards. Not only that, the bloke (owner) worked in the sunday world...........so it would make great colum inches if the story was printed.....

anyways, the tealeaf was FIRED! and the owner of the car got 2 free subsequent services and a complimentary meal for 2 in a nice restaurant -

Thats why i dont trust dealers/garages and buy/sell/service my own cars etc.
Trust no-one out there in the motor industry.
