    Hey folks,

I'm interested in buying a new mp3 player, especially when my current one has a broken headphone socket, poor battery life and a crack on the cover of the screen. It's an iAudio X5 20 GB.

I've used that and an iRiver H320 since 2004 and they both could be used on any computer which supported UMS.

Now I really loved this and it gave me a huge degree of flexibility which the likes of the iPod doesn't have. I put dual-boot rockbox on the iAudio which made it even more useful.

So with all that in mind, what is there in the line of music players that would use simple UMS, but be hard-drive based? 20GB would be the minimum size I could get away with.

    Thanks!

you could buy an 8gb Cowon D2 and add a 16gb sdgc card to it...

there's also a 32gb sandisk sansa which is UMS...

I can't really think of anything else that fits your bill, unless you want to buy an old 5g ipod and rockbox it...

I have the Cowon iAudio 7. It's flash based and only 16Gb but a great player and supports UMS mode.
