On a recent flight home from Tenerife with Ryanair, I noticed quite a lot of hand luggage over the allowed dimensions, but I didn't see anybody being queried about this, my question is, has anyone been stopped or seen anybody else being stopped for exceeding the limits, either weight or dimensions?

Often flights out of airports that are not ryanair bases (Eg Tenerife) luggage would not be checked to the standard that it is at at Ryanair base.

I've never really had any problem with hand luggage from Ryanair, and I've often seen people with hand luggage who were just taking the piss.

And ryanair still only allow 15kg check in luggage!

I was on an internal flight from rome - venice and you should have seen it?! Ya know those pictures of the trains in the early 1900's with the suitcases on the roof? that was nearlly the case! Ryanair staff had to put the bags in the toilets and even jammed them into empty seats! Crazyness!

I really think it depends on the airport that you are flying from....

I got a flight from stansted to Dublin and they were weighing hand luggage just as you go to security checks. I was just over the limit (barely) and they made me go back and check my luggage... bakstards!

Stansted are absolute bwankors for that. The UK airports in general are the worst.

OP - as others have said, it does depend on the airport. UK airports are strict, others a lot less so. But also worth bearing in mind that the acceptable dimensions for carry-on baggage are bigger than you think. I've a suitcase that is normal carry-on size (I thought it wasn't, but checked recently and it is) and I've been to Crete for a week and New York for 5 days with it as my total luggage.

I think as long as you're not *really* taking the piss, most places are ok.
