I bought a new TV recently and it's blurring the hell out of my PS2 Scart VGA connection....

Are there any Component Video or S-Video cables available for PS2 that'll improve the quality of my PS2 on my HD TV? If so, where can I order it.

I went into all the game shops in town and they thought I was stupid or something :(

Your new TV wouldn't happen to be an LCD would it? Are you using a true RGB scart cable? or compsite to scart adpater?

    It's LCD...

Currently using the PS2 slim standard cable, which is Scart... My TV has S-Video, Component Video, and HDMI connections...

EDIT: Ah I get what you're asking..... The TV end of the PS2 cable has only 3 connections... Red, White and Yellow. These connect to a Scart adaptor, which goes into the TV.

Yeah that cable is worst connection you can get. You should be able to still pick up a true SCART cable in Argos or GAME, etc..

I don't know if PAL PS2 supports component output like US PS2??

That connector you are using isn't a scart cable. Get yourself a proper scart cable or a component cable. The EU PS2 does support component and some games can be displayed in 480p which is well worth it. I think enter the matrix goes up to 1080p but that game is a steaming pile of **** anyway.

True Scart? what's the difference? Do you mean scart without the 3 colours going into it?

is that the only alternative and will it make much difference?

EDIT: Retr0gamer... Do you know where I can buy a component cable for ps2?

That " scart adaptor" you are using is just using the most basic subset of the scart connection , using just left and right stereo and composite video , composite video is the worst type of connection you can make , especially to a HDTV , it will always look poor on a HDTV.

A full scart allows you to use RGB , which is component as opposed to composite and will look way way better. ( it will be a better picture because the video signal is much better but note that no scart connection will carry a HD signal.)

Separate component leads should be better still , these will carry the best possible signal to your TV from a PS2

As Mathias said, a real scart cable will make a huge difference to the picture quality. When I upgraded all my consoles to scart it was like playing a new generation of console the difference is that big. Still can't believe the amount of people that still use ****ty composite.

As for where to get the component cable, I think they are really hard to find at the moment. I'm not sure but a PS3 component cable if one exists might work since the PS2 cables all work on the PS3. You might need to look that up. Your best bet is to get the cables online. A component cable would be better than scart but very few games actually output in 480p especially PAL games it might just be worth getting an easy to find scart cable since it will give the same results on a non 480p game. The PS3 scart cable will definitely work on the PS2.

Can someone please show us a link to view this amazing scart?

    http://shopping.kelkoo.co.uk/ss-rgb-cable-scart-ps2.html

Here you go , cheap enough , less than 10 sterling , not exactly rare.
Its the RGB scart you want , not the basic one , you already have that.

Also , according to this , game should have them too ,

    http://www.game.co.uk/PS2/Hardware/Accessory/~r321914/GAMEware-PlayStation-2-Super-AV-Scart-Cable-RGB-Guncon-Stereo-Phono/

A little more expensive but has extra connections for Gun games etc.

Thanks guys... I'll try and find one of these today and let you know how I get on. I've been sick all last week, so didn't get a chance to go online.

GAME @ Lunch is my first step.

Are you sure you have the scart plugged into a socket thats wired for scart? I've a TV with 3 scart sockets but only the AV1 socket is wired for true scart. Also make sure the switch on the scart cable is switched to Game. Old PS2 fat models can't display DVDs in scart so they have a switch to change between composite and scart.

    ARGH Retr0gamer... I love you!! :D:D:D:D

WTF... I checked and one scart says s-video and crd or something... The other says RGB... I put it in there (RGB) and all the flickiness went away... Sure, it's still PS2 quality, but at least that god-awful flickeriness has gone away...

    Happy now.... Thx again!

    From dealextreme

Component AV Cable for PS3 - Can only imagine it works the same as on the ps2... its the same connection!

Scart cable - does work with ps2 according to dealextreme forums

Comes to about €10 delivered, cant comment on quality though. I've been happy with everything i got off them so far.

Didn't realise that Retro (about true scart), very useful advice!
