Storing golf clubs long term.

Just wondering if you can advise.
I have a set of clubs at home that I am putting in storage in a rather cold and damp garage atmosphere. I have a storage cover for them, but it still lets the damp in, and I am hoping to find some way to store them in a waterproof, airtight environment as I dont plan on using them again for a while, but I want to make sure they dont start to rot.
I've had a look in golf shops, but the only waterproof covers they do are the ones that kind of tie around the golf bag to prevent rain getting in, so that isnt really suitable.
Anyone know of a sealable watertight cover that I could use? I suppose I could always just use black bags and tape, but if there is a proper type of storage for this type of thing, I'd rather look at that.
    Thanks

Good question. I'm not really sure you'd need to do anything. It's not like the old clubs that used to rust.

Leather grips would dry out and they might need to be rubbed in some light oil.

I think I would just clean the clubs and grips well using a small amount of detergent.

Then maybe lightly coat the shafts and heads in oil or vaseline.

Tie some bags around the grips and heads.

    That's my best guess.....to be honest I wouldn't worry that much........in other words I don't really know.

Better out in the open where at least they can breath a bit than in covers, where you could get trapped moisture condensing and really causing you problems. Store them with the grips down but not blocked so that any moisture will not collect at the hosel, but generally shafts these days will be fine. Not quite so for many heads, but depends on what youve got. Some, even good quality, recent stuff can rust terribly. Rubbing some reasonably viscous oil over them (face and back) will help.
