    Yeah, another thread about employment.

Anyway, as part of my 'college' year we are supposed to obtain work experience, working 10 days out of 14. Your supervisor is then meant to judge you fairly under a marking scheme(Excellent, Very Good....)

Earlier in the year I contacted a host of different places, which had some connection to my course. I e-mailed the IFI(Irish Film Inst.), Newstalk, Setanta Ireland, a few librarys and FM 104, oh and a few gyms. However I got no replys and as the date draws nearer my hope of going to UCD are hanging by the proverbial thread.

Does anyone know where I could get a job *coughs* hint..hint. The employer is not expected to be paid.

Have you tried following up your original letters with phone calls or a visit?

You need to remember that these organisations probably receive many applications such as yours. You need to let them know why you are the 'special' one they should take on for this experience.

A 'fire & forget' approach to job applications - no matter at what level - will get you nowhere.

OP, Hill Billy is right. You need to be far more assertive to get a place. All the places you mentioned probably get hundreds of enquiries every year from students so you need to do something to set yourself apart.

A bit of cheekiness goes along way so get on the phone and find out who you should be speaking to in each company then speak to them and give them your sales pitch. This will show them that you are actually serious about a career in this area.

Cheers. Yeah your right, my mum just had a big talk with me about how I need to act more 'bullshye'(sounds like) or something like that. Luckily enough the dad sorted me out.

What type of job are you looking for?

In terms of life, or the actual work experience? Lol.

Well, just anything basically in relation to the work experience. It is hoped that the job you get will be linked with the course, but to many it is impossible.

In terms of interest perhaps something involving the gaming industry.

OK but you haven't mentioned what course you're doing... :)

Oh its called 'Arts, Culture and History'. Its basically just a one year course. I hope to be a journalist(Don't worry I will one day master the English language) which is why I contacted Newstalk and other such places.

Entertainment.ie? I'm sure lots of review style websites like that would be happy to have you come in and write some reviews for them...

I'm not sure of what college your in but you say you have hopes of going to UCD, so definitely try get involved in writing for the Observer! They have a great Entertainment section..

Interestingly enough, we share similar aspiriations in that my dream job is a technology/games journalist... although i'm doing computer science

Oh cool. Have you had anything published in it?

Do you know if I just contact the Observer first or does it work by you send in a review on a game and then they decide if they will use it or not?
