So....I bought an 8G sony branded memory stick pro duo for my psp.....from ebay....yes, I was aware of the risks....but the seller had an excellent reputation (99.7%). Not convinced that it's bogey, but I am convinced that it's slow as FOOK.

Averaging 2.5MB/s (around 20Mb) write speed. I checked the amazon site and they say a minimum of 15Mb/s, so technically it's above that. Taking over half an hour to fill the thing. :( I "upgraded" from a 4G sandisk which was substantially faster.

Anyone here got a sony 8G memory stick give me a rundown on how fast files actually transfer for them?

I'm afraid to say its a fake. Easy way to check is to go to GAME / Memory Stick in XMB and press triangle. Should give you info on your MS, if "MagicGate" says "Unsupported" is a fake.

The slow write speed is a tell tale sign of a fake, another is that when you fill it up, you will get corrupted games, icons as its really a 4GB stick hacked to read its 8GB.

    I hope I'm wrong...

It says "MagicGate(tm) unknown". Balls. :(

I tested the data and it's good. I copied over 8G of data (just short of) then did a binary compare with the files on my hard drive and they all checked out, so it looks like it does actually hold 8G of data. May just send it back and demand a refund.

I wrote saying that the MagicGate feature was not working and they have offered to exchange. I wonder if I'll get a real one back now.

I tested the sandisk quickly there. It gets around 4.5MB/s write speed. A fairly hefty difference. I got it from amazon directly, so it's definitely not fake.

Do you thnk it would be good to buy and 8gb memory stick from amazon? I made the mistake of buying 1 on ebay it was fake of cours oh well i returned it and got all my money back:cool:. Do you think amazon
    cards wont be fake?

I've bought from amazon and got a proper card before, but I wouldn't buy from anyone other than amazon directly and they're not very cheap. I'm going to get one off play.com after I get a refund for the POS that I got on ebay (expecting the refund next week and I have a sister that lives in the UK). Play.com is around 30 euro cheaper for an 8G stick than anywhere else I could find that would definitely be legit. If you know someone in the UK, it's well worth the hassle.

If I weren't getting the play.com one, I'd go with memoryc.com. They're based in kildare and definitely wont be shipping bogus memory sticks. I'll never take the risk of buying off some muppet on ebay again, regardless of feedback.

If you can get them sent to the UK thats fine, but the cheapest i could find for an 8gig that would be sent to ireland and who is trustworthy enough for it to be real..

    Is dabs.ie

http://www.memoryc.com/flashmemorycards/msstick/8gbsonyproduopsp.html €117 euro before delivery cost of 5 euro on memoryc, total 122

http://www.dabs.ie/productview.aspx?Quicklinx=4JFJ&SearchType=1&CategorySelectedId=11025&SearchTerms=duo&PageMode=3&SearchKey=All&SearchMode=All&NavigationKey=11025 €88 euro on dabs before delivery cost of 5 euro to total of 93 euro

    Thats nearly 30 euro cheaper...

Also, the price has dropped from 99 euro on dabs just a week ago, so prices are falling.
