    Which of these laptops is better to buy?

    Both are the same price @250.

    Neither, they're hugely over priced at €250. You can get a brand new laptop for €500 that's ten times better than those.

    One key feature of the C400 (I have one - not sure about the other C610) is that it's basically an ultra-portable in case that's important here. But for €250 (or ideally less) you would want to be getting a few extras. Just for comparison I paid €240 on eBay last year for a C400 with PIII 1.2GHz, 768MB RAM, wireless, 40GB HD, external CD, external floppy, two batteries, Dell case, PSU, XP Pro license & media, Office 2003 license & media. Obviously there are risks and disadvantages to buying second hand gear. But it can make sense in some cases. In mine it was to run Ubuntu on an ultra-portable.
