Dublin Bus Route 3 - Santry to Sandymount

Can anyone give me an insight into the quality of the number 3 bus route? My son is moving creche to the far side of the city so I won't be cycling to work anymore, but would rather do as little car milage as possible. I can make it to work in Ballsbridge in 45 mins in the car and would hope that walking to Larkhill from Santry, getting bus to Sandymount and then walking to Ballsbridge wouldn't take double that, am I wrong?

If you're traveling from Santry to Ballsbridge, you may be better to get a bus from Santry to City Centre then switch bus to Ballsbridge.

This would be far more reliable than waiting for one cross city route. At peak time, the service to Ballsbridge is very frequent.

While using two buses, you could save money by using a prepaid ticket, including the transfer 90 ticket, which lets you board as many buses as you want within 90 minutes for €1.70. These can be purchased in newsagents in packs of 10. You could also opt for the monthly or weekly pass.

The 3 can be infrequent and the traffic from Pearse St to Ringsend is dire.

Get the first bus from Santry to O'connell St and switch to the 4/4A/5/7/7A/8 there.
Depending on traffic it should take 40-60mns.

Do I have it right that you live in one location, work in another and the creche is in a distant third? Sounds like a recipe for disaster.

Another option is to drive to killester dart station, parking the car, and take the dart to sandymount.

Thanks, I had thought of that but I understand that getting parking there is quite difficult? I used to park my car on Clonliffe road and cycle but was always uneasy about it and it did eventually get broken into so I'm not too hot on leaving all day
