    Hi Vaughny,

a mix of carbs and protein would work better for recovery than just protein alone.

protein drinks are convenient and absorb quickly, you can also use lean meat etc after training to get your protein, the most important thing is that you get it from somewhere!
if you are getting a protein drink shop around, go with a reputable brand that is good value.

simple carbs work best, so sugary drinks etc.
(im not a nutritionist or anything, these are just general tips)

to get started you could try a smoothie made with milk, peanut butter, bananas and honey: will give you a nice bit of protein, and plenty of carbs (not the quickest absorbing but tastes great as well :D

or if you get your protein shake, use juice and fruits of your choice and add a scoop of protein to make a snoothie

as for length of sessions on the bag, i suppose it depends on what you are after.
tbh id appreciate some tips/drills etc myself,
this site has some good articles:

    hope this helps

Every day if possible, try 6 3 min rounds and do sit ups as your rest about 30 seconds! that is a good little workout, to extend work out add skipping 6 2 min rounds with 30 second rest.

Hey Vaughny ,...... what have you been doing on the heavy bag so far ?...
20 minutes of continious punching is a lot,...... maybe a few 3minute sessions with a minute break inbetween would be a good simulation to start , build up your number of sessions with your fitnesss level.
You'll only get back what you put into it !

its very easy to develop a poor punching technique on the heavy bag. wrap ur hands up and keep ur wrists straight as an arrow !
treat it like an opponent, keep your hands up and move in-out of range , step to the sides and throw .

Ye I agree, 20 min stints are no mean feat but its not the right workout! You should try 3 minute workouts and give it hell the last 15 secs. 30 second break and back again. Always warm up beforehand. Jumping rope is also a great workout.
