N25 roadworks at Castlemartyr, Cork

Why are we unable to organize simple roadworks in this country?

Travelling to and from Cork yesterday evening I came upon a section of the the N25 being resurfaced in the village of Castlemartyr. The road is reduced to single lane as about a 200m section has been dug up and a traffic lights stop/go system is in place.

Unfortunetley a junction within the single lane area is not controlled by the lights so that vehicles can join the traffic flow as the last car heading south or north passes and by the time the road is clear, the traffic heading in the opposite direction loses its green light and is stuck for another sequence. Yesterday evening while 15/20 vehicles could pass southwards only 4/5 vehicles could go north on the same sequence.

To add insult to injury a Bus Eireann bus stop is located in the single lane length. Has it been moved a couple of hundred metres for the duration of the works? Has parking opposite the single lane route being restricted? Oh no. Yesterday morning the bus stopped to unload its passengers, take luggage from the hold, take on board new passengers and then head away. I reckoned I was stopped, along with all traffic on the national primary route heading north or south, for about 6/8 red/green sequences.

This was on a Sunday morning at 12.30pm. It must have been fun at school time this morning.
