    hello everyone.

I'm looking to buy a new laptop.. I'm looking for one around 500-600 euros although I don't mind going a tiny bit over if it's worth it.

I'm not great at this all i can do is tell you want a want. i'd like a ethernet connection, fairly good display, built in wifi, I'm not going to be gaming a lot with it so doesn't bother me about graphics card.. dvd/cd burner.

Think that's the essentials. I have heard that toshiba are the best make.Although not sure if this is true..

Any suggestions would be helpful thanks:)

Everything you want should be in a base spec laptop. All those things come as standard now a days in laptops. If you are looking for something cheap and cheerful then a dell vostro is most likely the best option. They really can't be beat on price right now.

I just need to ask what you think of these.

is 1gb of ram enough or would i need 2gb? I heard 512 is a bit of joke these days
128mb or 256mb? Just want to play a bit of basic gaming. Nothing as advanced as cysis

60gb or 80gb? Want a decnt amount of space for music progams which i want to work with.

internal bay for optical drive: i was told this was essential?

I have heard some dell laptops have cut microphones and webcams out.

Core duo or core 2 duo processors(Or any other alternatives that work as well i;m not sure)

thanks to almightycushion for the suggestion. Can I have these questions answered. Sorry if they're a bit simple:)

If you are running vista then I would recommend going with at least 1GB but preferably 2GBs.

At your price range you'd be looking at integrated graphics which are pretty poor for anything but older games.

You should be able to get 120GB hard drive which would be fine for what you want.

Most laptops (bar really small ones) have a optical drive.

Lots of laptops don't come with a microphone or webcam built in especially at the lower end. You can still buy an external one and hook them up.

It doesn't really matter. There is also the amd turion processor. Try and stay away from the intel celeron and the amd sempron if you can as they are budget processors and are a bit crap.
