How useful are OPR rankings ?

Do people here consider the rankings on http://www.officialpokerrankings.com to be meaningful ?

Do a lot of strong players get their results hidden and thereby make other people's results seem better than they really are ?

The reason I ask is because they have me at 96.8% on Partypoker and 97.3% on Full Tilt but I am only a beginner (playing 5 months) and I don't kid myself that it is an accurate reflection of my standing.

I imagine that if the standings could be filtered by Average Buy-In that they would be a lot more useful.

Are you sure you can hide your results from opr? i thought that was only sharkscope..

and i agree the percentage rankings aren't great, i'd look more at the roi of a player for a better indication of how they rank (aslong as there's a decent sample size), and ABI filter would be handy too.

Brag post...! lol only kiddin...Yeah I was 97% odd for a while just by playing $11 mtts and satting into the Warmup once or twice. I think my total profit was around $300 and I was in the 95+s, so it seems that if you're a winner at all you're pretty highly ranked. My ROI was 30% over 160 tournaments...Does that mean I'm awesome or brutal?

you really need to have played alot of tournaments before the ROI means anything, just because 1 big score can skew the % so much,

They are meaningful but they're not completely accurate, ie. if you sat into the Sunday Million on Stars OPR will have you down as if you payed into it for the full $215 Dollars, also if you do a chop with someone on stars while playing heads up, and then go on to play out the tournament in which you finish second OPR will put you down as having won 2nd place money when you actually got more from the chop and when you go on to win the tournament you benefit on OPR because they have you down as winning more when you actually won less from the chop...complicated but hope you get me :D

Last week, when i was bored in work, i decided to have a look at the rankings and take note of the top ranked online players across a few sites. I used pokerdb as opposed to opr.

I listed the top 300 gold ($50+buyin) and top 300 silver ($11-$49 buyin) ranked players for 2007, whacked them together in a list and if i'm playing a biggish buyin MTT or i'm deep in a smaller one, i'll check the list and see if anyone at the table is on it.

The rankings sites have their uses and are worth a look every now and then

its the bible in my book!!!:) im 8000 out of 735k thats nearly top 1% of online players so it must be right!!! all joking aside its very misleading im not half as profitable as players on here and it has me high up on the list prob because i dont play many mtts, its more useful for me to analyse my finishes than it is to analyse opponents i think, its handy to keep an eye on my mates too see if there BSing me with there results thats about all i use it for! as someone said roi is also misleading cos a couple of wins can skew it in my case its 327% which shows me its misleading!!

I hadn't come across pokerdb before. At first glance it looks to have better info. than OPR. I guess you have to subscribe to the magazine to be able to access it fully, right ?

Ok I'm 42,684 out of 736,621 which puts me in the top 6% of the world for a massive profit of $427 in 120 days equals $3.56 per day (I have semi-retired from on line poker). How bad are the 693,937 players behind me?
I like these stats makes me feel good about my play. ITM 15% 81 tourneys (36 players plus) in 120 days, not bad I suppose.
