I have got so-called cheap tickets to Basel for last week of Jan.
I am going there for 3nites/4 days.
Landing in Basel and planning to take a train to zermatt.

The galcier express journey is 7.5hrs. but due to short days, im sure it will be dark by noon and we cant see anything.
Is it worth to take a full trip of 7.5hrs from zermatt to st.moritz?

    please suggest..

is there any other scenic train journey which I can take in the ALPS?

I have got only 4 days of which 2 days are travelling to and from basel.

I am not interested in skiing, so please suggest something you know

If you start from Zermatt at 7-8am, you should have daylight for whole way.
(I once did Geneva - Brig - [Glacier Express] - Davos - Zurich - Geneva in a day which was murder.... but just 7.5hrs on the GC itself is quite doable)

To take a few hours off it, you could just go from Zermatt to Tamins and then go straight to Chur (instead of the long detour via Davos, unless you particularly want to go to Davos of course). With the exception of the Filisur viaduct, I didn't find Tamins-Davos to be the most exciting part of the Glacier Express.

    Other scenic train journeys:
The Golden Pass from Montreux to Interlaken
    Brunig from Interlaken to Lucerne
