meeting for all University captains!

Was suggested today that all university captains or other representatives from the clubs should meet to discuss rules and other issues etc... rules were set down years ago and followed to a certain extent but certain bending and manipulation of the IV rules have caused unrest... i propose we set new rules for the following year ('08-'09). These rules will be no different to the rules already set down but they WILL be enforced and there will be no manipulation or bending of the rules. A student archery association should be in place to provide a method of registration to all VALID students who may log IV scores. The first meeting will take place in NUIG on the 26th of january. It will take place after the competition obviously. This is my proposed plan.

Sounds like a good idea. It would be no harm for ye to elect a "council of eldars" thing who have the authority to make and impliment decisions rapidily. Rule changes are currently difficult as we talk about them on boards sometimes but don't have a system of voting on them or implimenting them.

    I agree with panserborn.
its been too long since the club captains have met up to sort out all the gritty details that bug everyone. i was just wondering if captains-in-training would be allowed to come along to the meeting to learn the ropes?

i agree as some clubs are having a turnover period it wouldn't do any harm to have a second person tag along. it can all be a bit baffling

Reckon there could be the captain plus another club member of the captains choosing. Other than that maybe the numbers should be kept as low as allowed. Too many opinions can be worse than none if decisions have to be implimented quickly.

Any captain want to put themselves forward to chair the meeting?

Make sure whoever is chairing is someone who can handle a crowd and not take any crap. It will be essential if you guys actually plan on achieving anything other then a meet and greet.

... I'm flashbacking to the days when Ewan used to chair meetings....:eek::eek:

That man can yell :) I think the biggest thing is that the same people go to the meetings all the time. That way everyone knows what is going on from start to finish.

for chair how about an ex college member. some one with there wits about them, a guest or something, that way an unbiased seasoned voice can keep control.
    just a thought

Em may sound biased but maybe your rep to the IAAA?

Maybe a silly question so sorry but who is it this year anyway?

    its harry lyster.

that aint a bad idea dot. but how about some one with no club affiliation. thats finished there's years grace and all. that said i dont see a problem with harry mediating. the fact he's the student rep would stand well for the meeting.

Is Harry willin'? If he is then thats a good idea. Tell him to bring a good hand rapping stick. If anyone is worried about bias (I don't reckon Harry would be in anyway biased though) then he could be regarded as the second DIT rep as discussed earlier. 2 weeks til the meeting, anyone have things to bring up? Would be an easier time for Harry if ye had an agenda of types to follow. Would recommend ye draw up some kind of "formal" method of forwarding and voting on proposals (rule changes and the likes).

Do ye want to have the meeting in the hall after the IV? If ye want, I can try and get ye a meeting room of types so ye can hammer things out without dodging any type of murderous ball.

I think he's happy to do it. The IAAA have a few requests from the colleges clubs. I'm on the committee this year and as Harry wasn't elected at the last meeting they directed most of them my way.

I'll pass them on, it's just things like they want to see the rules for the Intervarsities, what kind of progress the clubs are making with archery....

guys..... do we have an agenda yet?

I'm not a captain or a member of the council but after shooting for 6 years in the universities here is my tupence worth .................... slam it at will :)

    1. Think ye first need to formally form the Irish Student Archery Association, even if it is a loose title that simply includes Irish third level institutions with those present at the meeting as the honchos.

    2. Ye also need some form of actively proposing rule-changes and voting on them. It would be my opinion that only the members of the council vote - not all the students who shoot. That way each club has the same representation and no club can swing a decision by power of numbers.

    3. If ye want to consider the possibility of sending a team to the World Uni Champs then ye should see what the possibilities are and who is interested.

That would be my thoughts on what ye need to sort out but as I said, they are just ideas.
