I haven't seen it on sale anywhere in Ireland, but hasbean.co.uk
has a similar product, Brazilian Camocim Jacu Bird Organic coffee.
This is 'produced' using a similar process but the beans are reputed
    to be better tasting/quality.

Here's the link on hasbean, must say I like Steve's product code. ;)

    is kopi luwak any good?

does it subscribe to a sort of
10 times the price, twice as good style of things?

Haven't tried it myself. I can't help feeling people buy it just to
watch the facial expressions on their dinner guests as they
announce the source of the after-dinner coffee they've just had.

I really don't see the point of drinking coffee that has come out of somethings ass.....and paying a premium price for the pleasure! As a coffee lover it is probably something you should try once but that is it. Much better coffees out there for a lot less money...

i bought it before in amsterdam just for the hell of it but found that i really liked it. its not something you could realistically afford to drink every day (it would also become dull) but its nice to have for the odd ocassion. in this case its just for me dinner guests can drink nescafe, feck em! :D

haha, This is the source of a good laugh in the movie 'The Bucket List'. Sounds very interesting alright, but I'm not sure I'd be able to drink it :D

hehe, i know it sounds rank at first thought, but when you think about it why should there be a problem, it just a bean, sure it been through an animals digestive system but they are cleaned and roasted etc after so free from any "nasties" :o

it certainly has to be better than not knowing where its been or what it has in it, which can be the case for a lot of "food" these days. Im sure we have all eaten something that conatined something else that would make us vomit on the spot if we knew about it!

Don't remind me, I still don't eat Black Pudding since working in Superquinn all of 19 years ago! :D

I'm sure they have this in Arnotts. There is a stand on the fround floor near the escalators selling animal digested coffee beans.

They also have insect lollipops and other tasty animal treats for you to nibbe on.

Tried it out at a diner party I threw at new-years and out of the nine people only two copped it once I said it was a unique blend with a diference. The faces of the others at the table was something else once it was explained to them. Its very nice with an individual taste and texture but not for every day use that’s for sure. Regards. G.

PS The last few packs are in Arnotts priced €30.00 each, also for some thing else try the weasel Coffey €20.00 per pack, and not too bad either.

This is one of the smartest things I've heard in a while. People really don't realise how many products around fit that description perfectly.

Having said that, I would be curious to try Kopi Luwak. But just a cup of it; I wouldn't mind a once off ludicrous price of €x to see what it's like, but I couldn't bring myself to buy a whole bag of the sh... ahem, 'stuff'... ;)

What size bags of kopi luwak are Arnotts selling for €30?
    It seems incredibly cheap.
I drink kopi luwak. I buy it online direct from Sumatra and limit myself to 1/2 a pound a year.
Once you try it, you'll never go back.

You'll probably find people on this forum aren't too receptive to gimmick coffees like Kopi Luwak.

May i suggest to try http://www.hasbean.co.uk/products/Malawi-Viphya-Geisha-Micro-Lot.html as an alternative to try? Its a extremely smooth coffee with no harshness. Once you try it, you'll never go back. :)

Can you tell me what website you use to purchase it please, any problem with Customs?

I will echo PPC's comment. Kopi Luwak is bollox. A triumph only of marketing.

I would urge anyone not to waste their money on what is in essence, low grade sumatran coffee peppered with the excrement of a cat.

I would also consider the fact that a lot of the Kopi Luwak that is sold is not from free roaming civets, but rather from caged animals force fed nothing but coffee cherries.

    So if you have
    (a) tastebuds
    (b) a desire not to part with a lot of money for rubbish
    (c) a dislike of animal cruelty

then I would urge you to pass.

Mmmmm.. I had that one recently too, amd second the recommendation. Currently in the morning plunger pot is Finca Las Lajas, competition lot, Sabanilla de Alajuela, Costa Rica from James Gourmet. Wonderful complexity if you wake up in a contemplative mood!

Kopi Luwak beans mentioned in the Irish Times on Saturday. Can buy them from a crowd in Ballycoolin in Dublin. I'm tempted, but then I'll have to get a coffee grinder and there are too many to choose from!
