I'm getting into Aikido, the style appeals to me, and have what I hope is not a stupid question, but probably is,

My instructor is 1st Dan, from what I've read there are higher levels, should i go to an instructor who has a higher level?

the guy whom i spoke to, gives lessons just around the corner from me, so I'll probably go to him, I'm just wondering as I have no clue about this matter

any help the more experienced members have could give me would be great

I can't speak for Aikido since I haven't trained in it, but in my experience, a higher "grade" of black belt doesn't necessarily mean greater technical competence, ability or knowledge. In theory it should, but usually it doesn't.

It certainly doesn't mean the person is a better instructor, which is another important point to consider.

If you enjoy the classes and they're well run, I wouldn't worry about whether the person is a 1st, 5th or 500th dan.

id say have a look around at some of the dublin dojos listed within these sites and pick what club suits you best.

No What Clive says is true go with the instructor you like the best. Aikido has summer workshops and weekend courses so you can see other instructors in action and make a more informed decision then.
