Halifax Calendar Competition - Did they actually produce a calendar?

Just wondering if Halifax ever actually produced a calendar from their somewhat controversial competition of a few months ago. Some of the winning entries appeared to be very low res and I'm intrigued as to how they turned out in the final product (if there is one).

A little bit of using the search function will yield results like this: http://www.boards.ie/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=2055178449&highlight=halifax

    Thanks Calina ;)

Just read the thread from 7th November. I agree with all of it except the gob****es who, for no apparent reason, took the view that people being pissed off was sour grapes.

The competition was a complete joke and Tom Lawlor, who I loved as a photographer in his Irish Times days, seems to have lost the plot. I can think of no redeeming reasons why a man of his talent could select so many crap photos.

To make his own photos look so much better than competition winners?? :D

Good to see you posting Danny.

Valentia, he may not have had the final say. The PR people tend to drive these things and usually seek to make the creative fit their brief rather than the other way around.

After 20 years as a Graphic Designer [and glad to be shot of it finally :) ] I came up with the expression "There's no such thing as good design, only design the client will accept". I had a strong sense of Deja Vu when I saw some of the final choices,

Speaking as someone who has a few copies of the calendar lying around the quality is pretty good surprisingly (the photoshopped image was re-photoshopped by Halifax guys and it doesn't seem so obvious anymore).

The Canon G9 photo (girl with hurley raised) did show that a bridge camera still can't print to A4 without significant blurring once cropped.

Ones that printed particularly well in my opinion were the Spire and the dolphin one.

Not to be opening up this whole can of worms again... All I can say is that my grandmother is quite fond of the picture of my sister ;)

I picked up a copy of this calender, the quality of the copy I got is pretty poor. April the hurler and May the dancers look terrible. The one that caused all the problems look likes it was photo-shopped again.

Can't blame the camera much there I think, it's more to do with distance from the subject and probably a crop of a small part of the photo.

I know - but this seems to demonstrate one of the key advantages of dSLRs over bridge rivals, ability to fit a telephoto lens if needs be and low noise high ISO pictures (I'm aware of the 18x superzooms available on the market right now but their high ISO performance does leave a lot to be desired).

not to be a pedantic pat, but the camera used was a Powershot G7, not the G9.:o

I thought the December picture of the sun setting behind the silhouette of the kids on the beach was nice. The girl in the leaves was a cute one too. Can't really remember many of the others just remember thinking they were pretty awful.
