Is there any copyprotection or DRM on Sky+ recordings?

In essence, no as you can't copy the recording digitally from the hard drive. Recordings are encrypted on the hard drive, as far as I know. There's also Macrovision to consider on many Box Office events.

There is two layers of encryption.

The unbroken NDS already on the pay channels, that uses the viewing card package settings on playback, hence if you downgrade package after recording, you have content that won't play.

2nd is a Sky+ (also on SkyHD) layer of encryption added to the signal as it is recorded. Without a Sky+ sub this is not decrypted by your viewing card.

I no longer purchase any Box Office as some TVs are badly affected by macrovison. It's obscene deliberate distortion. However the signal and recording on HD (or even purchased DVDs) has no Macrovision at all. Just a Flag and the electronics generates the evil distortion on the MPEG decoder.

What I mean is if I record a programme from Sky One, will there be any copyprotection on it to stop me from recording the programme I recorded on to a DVD using a DVD Recorder (sorry for the complicated post). Thanks

In theory it depends on the show but I have never seen Macrovision on Sky One.

If I want to keep a football match or Film from the Sky EPG I record it on my Philips HDD. There is no block of any kind as it is a free transmission to another Box. I can then burn a DVD or whatever. Had no problems to date.
