what the "law" on this excatly ....

where i work , i was told to let supervisor know if i was going to the toilet , some other people in my team thinks they shouldnt have to do that ...
i myself didnt really care if the supervisor was near me id just tell them i was going off ... if they were not around however ... i wasnt going to walk around looking for them 1st lol

anyway , i ve heard rumours about they want a new rule that you have to ask to go to the toilet ..

and i ve heard of this in other companys ...

i mean asking you to let them know is one thing .... but asking for permission is giving them the go ahead to say " no "... and can grown up people be told they are not allowed go to the toilet ? that would be bad for your health i would say ...

surely there is some laws against this ?

I would certainly think not - If there is such a law it is bloody ridiculous

    There aren't laws for everything.

I would say this is probably fine. It's stupid, but I can't see how asking to go to the toilet is illegal.

Personally I would just get a new job.

    Totally depends on the job.

If you hold a position where your being away from your job without someone else covering it even for a split second then it's a serious issue which needs to have such rules. There are many of these jobs around.

so if u ask and they say no .. (i mean i could put up with being asked to wait a few min , until someone covers) but no outright ?
& if i just went anyway ...& lets say this happened a few times and i get fired ... is this a fair dismissal ?

    What industry is it?

Whilst working on the tills in a cinema, we had to make sure someone would be able to cover us whilst we went (couldn't just leave the queue of 80 waiting whilst I had a sh|t), but once we had a replacement, no problem. Not a law as such, more like common sense.

In an office environment, though, it would not make any sense. Especially if the person crapped their pants whilst looking for said supervisor...:D

just go, what can they do? sack you for going to the toliet? thats a wrongfull dismissal case right there.

edit: this is, of course assuming your not going ever 5 minutes

Ive always just gone, I dont know the legality but as mentionned if you being away from your desk leaves phones unanswered or there's some kind of safety/security issue from you being gone maybe its important to tell someone.

Unless you work in a customer facing role like the_syco mentions where you should find a replacement, then just go.

If your employer complains then you have a case for constructive dismissal and your employers HR department will not like that one bit.

It wont come to that, don't take the piss (literally) and i cant see any employer making a fuss because you ate a dodgy curry last night.

My employer has rules about the time alloted to bodily functions but they are very very loosly applied, only time i ever saw someone given grief about it was when they were acting the bollix going out for a smoke every 30 mins for 10 mins.

In an office this is absolutely unfair and I'm pretty sure it's illegal as well. What do they expect you to do?

I dont know about th law with regards to informaing someone when youre going to the loo, but its against the law for a company to implement some sort of loo rota or time.
You can go whenever you want.

Which means yes, its illegal to stop someone from using the rest rooms.
