    Hi guys,

I'd like to change the headlight bulb in my Toyota Avensis D4D 2002. I want to learn to do most of the work on the car myself.

So is it possible to do myself?

    What will i need?
How should i go about it?
Also i guess the first thing i will need is to get a new light bulb for it. Where can i find them around Dublin area? Close to Rathmines would be nice but i can travel :)

    Thanks guys :D

You need a H7 55w bulb. Any motor factors will have it. Should cost about €5/10
    1. Open the Bonnet
    2. Go the side the bulb is blown
    3. There is a round rubber cover over the rear of the bulb
    4. Pull the cover off (it is just pressed on)
    5. Pull the block connector off the back of the bulb (dont pull the wires, just the square plastic thing)
    6. Then there is a wire clip holding in the bulb that you must unhook, this will then hinge downwards
    7. Remove the bulb

To reassemble do the above in reverse order, just make sure to fit the bulb the right way around (IIRC the little cutout bit with the tab goes on top). Also don't touch the glass on the new bulb or let anything get wet.

Normally it's pretty basic in that you take the back casing off the light and simply remove the old bulb and insert the new, you might need a screwdriver that should be it. However on alot of modern cars it can be a back to the dealer job as bumpers and body panels need to be removed, it really depends on the car.

I find Halfords handiest to buy bulbs in, they have a book beside the light bulbs that you can select the make and model and it tells you all light bulbs that the car takes. I'd say any motor factors will have this or will know the correct bulbs for it, I'd imagine they are standard type.

The Avensis is easy! Just do as I said above. I replaced the bulb in mine only a few weeks ago!

    As I said, it is a H7 55w bulb!

Changing a bulb in the MkI Avensis which the OP has, is straight forward enough. Newer Avensis is a different kettle of fish though.

The later (not latest) Avensis is an absolute bugger to change a headlight bulb in! You need hands and wrists the size of a 2 yr old child to get at the bloody thing.

Yeah, the 03 onwards is a pain. Had to change one on the way to electric picnic a few years back, took 20 mins.

The one on the battery side can be a bit tricky, there isn't much room, but removing the battery only takes a second anyway.
