I thought I just posted this but I must have only clicked preview instead of submit. Grumble grumble grumble.

Anyway, I bought a Canon EOS 400D last week and here are some photos I took with it. You can click on the pictures to get to my flickr pages if anyone's interested. There's a good few older photos from my old compact camera, not exactly award winning stuff but plenty of shots from gigs, holidays and of music gear. Some interesting shots if a little lo res if I may say so myself. Anyway, enough waffle.

Model skull that sits on my bedside locker:

Lord of the Rings book-end that guards some of my CDs:

Papier maché mask that I bought in Venice:

How are you finding the camera so far? It's a pity the weather's so shocking, it'd be good to get out with it. The skull is pretty cool, try put it in front of a neutral background and convert to black and white.

Good to see you're enjoying the new camera!

A few tips, try to keep the flash off for photos like you have above - That skull is really interesting, you could keep shooting that for a long time to find out what does what with depth of field, etc - And get some pretty nice abstract shots in the mean time!

The depth of field is shown quite well in the second one where just the head is in focus.

    Anyways, happy shooting :)

Pity you didn't try the skull on the snow - the effect might have been amazing.

#1 - The background would have been better if totally neutral and lose the clutter in front of the skull.

#2 - again I'd have gone for a neutral background.

#3 - Like the mask but would have preferred the full mask and again maybe a neutral background.

The skull is a great subject for experimenting with lighting. Maybe place it in a dark enclosure and get a desk lamp as a basic light source and shoot from a tripod. You man make all sorts of homemade diffusers for your flash too.

    Have you seen this thread:

Thanks for the tips lads, I was only pointing the camera at things in my room, wasn't trying to make decent shots. Just trying to get a feel for the camera but I think I will try and get something out of the skull (not literally). The mask fits on it perfectly so there's another avenue there...

And as for snow, we didn't get any around here :(

The hands broke off my LOTR book ends a long time ago :( Nice shots, not experienced enough to offer any opinions :) BTW what does C&C stand for?
