iPod video recorder ('iRecorder')

Hi, I'm thinking of investing in this digital video recorder for iPod. It encodes using MPEG4 at up to 720x480 and can record directly onto other devices (besides iPods) such as flash memory cards etc. It appears to have pretty decent specs but I'd be interested to hear anyone's opinion of it or any possible alternatives I should consider. Thanks.

I have limited experience with iPod video recording, but from what I have done, I really don't like mp4 formatting. Only an Apple product and gaming consoles will play mp4 (so far), but Apple products also play everything else. Some newer programs are able to decode and play it, but it just depends on your software.

Personally, I would go with something that records in a more mainstream (like regular mpeg, or even divX). That way, it will still play on your iPod, but it will also play on all other devices, computers, or even your friends' Zune/Blackberry, etc.

Thanks for the reply - on reflection I'm really looking for a device to replace our old VCR so that really suggests a DVD recorder at the minimum. I would also like something that can easily record to H.264/MPEG4 for playback on an iPod (I find using a PC to do the conversion to H.264 is a pain). I've been searching for quite a while now but cannot find a DVD recorder that will record to MPEG2 or iPod compatible MPEG4. Is there such a thing? The nearest I can find is the Neuros OSD but that won't record to DVD media and doesn't do MPEG2.

As far as I know, there are just regular DVD recorders, and you need to convert them on your computer. If you have a good program then it is easier, but then it makes it more expensive because now you need a DVD recorder AND computer software. Ugh....
