Private care

My GP sent a letter to the Royal Victoria Eye & Ear for an appointment to check out a lump growing inside my nose, on the bridge, I'm worried it might be cancer but I have been given an appointment for next November, thanks no doubt to the civically minded hard working consultants we have in this country. 11+ months. I can't wait that long to find out if I've cancer.

What are my options for a private appointment and how much will it cost roughly?

I've never had anything more than a cold/flu and have just finished college so have only started paying private health insurance cover.

I went to see a private consultant in Dublin a while back.

    Cost me 150euro.

But I was able to claim it back even though i had just started paying for health insurance.

In my cover, you can't claim anything for the first 30 days. After that, there's a limit to what you can claim. After 6 months it's a free for all :p

Most of them cost 100-150 euro for the initial consultation though.

If that's out of the question for you, you could have a chat to your GP nad explain your worries.

He/she will have sent your consultant a letter outlining the problem. If the consultant had thought it was serious he'd have made you an appointment for sometime in the next couple of weeks.

The waiting time is most likely more to do with how your case was prioritised, rather than there being no consultants in work until next november, as you seem to think ;)
