    Howdee,

Silverchair, latter day silverchair is pretty good IMO. First 2 albums are pretty lame, but Neon Ballroom, Diorama and young modern are pretty good.
I wouldnt consider them a "rock" band nowadays at all....
though daniel johns comes across as a bit odd at times....

That song 'slave'- i think its on either their 1st or 2nd album- is a brilliant song and they've had a few others, but their lead singer/guitarist tries way to hard to be kurt cobain.

At first I thought his frail, sickly look was for image but then it turned out that he actually had arthitis and an eating disorder. Boy, did I have egg on my face.

I wouldn't say Silverchair are underrated, just never got the exposure in the northern hemisphere. Here in Oz they're the biggest thing going and have massive record sales with every album. A generation has grown up with them in the same way as Oasis etc in the UK/Ireland.

I'll be seeing them at the Big Day Out in three weeks and though I'm by no means a massive fan, I'm looking forward to it.

sorry, i should have specified "under rated" in the northern hemisphere. I'm aware of how popular they are in Oz. I think they are/were pretty popular in germany and south america too.
    i like Young Modern..
Juts got the Across the Great Divide dvd recently, pretty good stuff...

they actually got quite a large amount of exposure on this side of the world with neon ballroom. I remember being in my early teens and buying/downloading anything I could get my hands on. Also saw them a lot on mtv etc.. Definitely weren't as popular after Diorama, not sure why! Pity, did like their music a lot.

Also Courtney Love has actually noted in the past the glaring resemblance between the lead singer of silverchair and Kurt Cobain..

I've heard some of their stuff and I love all that I have heard. Must actually get my hands on some cd's though. They played Pukkelpop in Belgium last year, whereas I was at Werchter, it was annoying seeing the posters with their name on it. One of the many bands I wanted to see, even though everyone I moaned to didnt know them at all.

apparently just after diorama was released, daniel johns, ended up really sick with some eating disorder or arthritis, he was bedridden for a bit, or pretty f**ked anyways, so they never got the chance to promote it outside Oz, and t'isnt a bad auld listen at all. "without you" and "greatest view" have some nice hooks. the new one is pretty different, and he did have a side thing going with Paul Mac (not the UK dj) called The Dissociatives...
check out some youtube on em...

and ana wrecks your life...like an an anorexia life

    (see what he did there)

Watch out Daniel Johns- and whatever you do don't go into the upstairs room of your garage, next thing you know some hitman will blow your brains out!

haha, tho he looks nought like him now, (not saying he looks like kurt cobain would look like literally right now, like a skeleton or something....)

heard that song "tomorrow" when they first came out...great tune...they're a good band...very hit and and miss tho...new stuff sounds like duran duran mixed with talk talk bizarrely enough....ive.respect for a band that tries to develop....

they get slated from some quarters for not re-writing "tomorrow", but i admire them for at least trying something different each time. i thought at first, the new stuff was rubbish, but it has grown on me over time..
the lyrics on their first release are brutal...

i think they're great. if you listen from the first album to the last you can kind of understand the huge changes they kept making to the music.

stayed up till six in the morning downloading the dissociatives album, worth wasting a night and a day.

can't get enough of daniel johns work!
